What you'd like to graduate to..
Well, Im assuming most people throughout their lives 'move up' the ladder when they buy cars. I had a 96 civic coupe before 'graduating' to the 8. I love my 8, but as a car lover, can't help but wonder what the next level on the hopefully ascending ladder is for me in say 8 years or so. If it was today, a couple cars on my target list (I'm using twice as much as the 8 as the cap, as thats the same leap I made from Civic to 8), that cap (twice as much as 8) is about 60K plus or minus a few g's to make it fun:
here's my list
-new AMG SLK 55 (355 HP, 0-60 4.3 SECONDS, in this months new Car and Driver, lists for 65K)
- Corvette C6, maybe a z06 if i can afford it
-Chrysler 300M SRt-8. (this car is insane, 425 hp, 0-60 in 4.7, lists for 47K)
-Mercedes CLS
-Audi s4
-current BMW M3
whats on your list?

I am lookin for a mint 95 r2 silver. Other than that, I will buy the next rotary incarnation.
Eventually I wouldn't mind owning the new ls600h for my daily driver and use the rex as a weekend warrior.

for the 60k range i would probably go with these:
1) new Shelby GT500 with some extra cash for gas and new tires every 1k miles
2) S4
3) used E39 M5
4) Boxster S
5) Elise with some cash to spare on new rubber and a driving school

Upgraded 8 or new 7
or 3rd gen 7
really I hope to drive Rotaries for the rest of my life and I'm in my 20s
I wouldn't be caught dead in a Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Porsche, or Corvette...but I wouldn't mind a Aston Martin as a second car :D

Also, there are so many interesting cars that should pop up in the next 2-3 years at a much more affordable price: Porsche Cayman (aka Boxster Coupe), 4th Gen RX-7, MS RX-8, new NSX, new GT-R, new Supra, and 400hp M3 Sedan etc. And the Lotus Elise is still calling to me every now and then (or at least the sales guy keeps pestering me).
As I've already graduated and have owned cars costing more than twice the price of the RX-8, I've found I can be just as happy with reasonably priced cars like the RX-8.
The grass isn't always greener once you've been there.
