Because of the chasis code (part code)
2nd generation FC3s
3rd generation FD3S
Rx8 FE3s there is another chasis code for the 8 so i'm not shure but the taillights and master drum on the break have the FE01 sticker /part code an them.

Is thais a tendency that started with the tunning crowd (initial D crowd)
since they call almost all cars for their chasis codes i.e.
Tollota Corolla gt-s AE86
Mazda Rx7 to 1987 FC
Mazda RX7 to 2004 (yas they still make them in japan till 2004) FD
Engines: Specially Hondas and toyotas
B16 (1.6 litre civic engine)
B22 (2.2 litre prelide engine)
2JZ 2.5 litre Supra engine

If anyone else is more knolegable about the codes and wants to post for future reference please do so. Many times I find miself bafled when I read or hear people talking in PART NUMBER slang (mabo we should open another thread for this topic exclusiveley)

Good info oreo.

BTW, the 2JZ denotes the 3.0 liter version of the "J" series motor. You must've been referring to the 1JZ-G(T)E, the 2.5 liter variant which was in the 3rd gen. Supra, and I believe the Toyota Soarers of the 90's.

Be careful, there's some know-it-alls on this board that say the RX-8 is not an "FE."

But NJCS, what others have posted in this thread is correct.

Are you talking about me?

The chassis number is SE3P... buy a Japanese magazine and the whole of japan call it SE3P. Japanese adopts short hand in the chassis code not the engine number. Oh well sometime they refer to the engine number when they talk about the engine only.

SE3P it is .... I don't why and cannot tell you why but I am sure it is right after 2 years people of Japan still refer it as SE3P!!! In fact all the mag will name it RX-8 or SE3P and never once FE3P or similar.

SO Honda integra type R - Current model is.....?

Answer: You will say DC5 don't you?
Engine code is K20A.

Get it?

Engine code is Renesis 13b. The Renesis is to distinguish from the 13b-REW (which is in the RX-7). For the "guai lo" who has an English version of the RX-8 book *(200pages one) can read the history of the rotary engine and they will find all the codes there is for the ENGINE. Other number such as Cosmo, FC and FD are chassis number. There are non-Turbo and Turbo FCs. They are called FC but DIFFERNET engines number! Get it now?!

BTW you can call what ever you like the people in Japan will go (AH?! )

I should stop before the moderator is on my back.

Just to name a few codes...?
OK
DC2 - Honda Integra Type R last model
DC5 - Honda Integra Type R current model
S13, S14, S15 are simple - the Silvias.
GDA, GDB, and GDC are the WRX STis - I forgot what year is which
CT9A are EVOs - have to specify in Japan they said エボ VII for EVO 7. Apparenetly the EVO II and III are CE9A... I am missing something here
R32, R33, R34 are Skyline GTRs
The G35 are the Skyline Coupe you have in US.
SW20 is old MR2 ... no one talk about the new one - I have come across it but not on top of my head now.
Z33 is 350Z or Fairlady Z.
JZX81 is my old fav - the Toyota Chaser

Anymore

The last FD3S rolled off the assembly line in 2002. It was a HUGE event, and the production plant was closed down to prepare production for the RX-8. They had a ceremony, the CEO of Mazda gave a speech, and I think it was parked in the Mazda Gallery.

I know my 2000 Civic was EJ8, or am I getting that confused with the Si's?

Here's a big handy table for Honda codes:

Just for my reference:

Honda Jazz/Fit - L15A
Toyota Passo K3-VE

The following statement is for people who said I am BULLSHITTING about SE3P

Before you open you mouth and say other people, especially people with Japanese knowledge wrong. Just see INGs site in Japan what is the 4 letters next to RX-8???

I know you're technically right, Taka, but it goes something like this...

2nd gen RX-7 as FC in the VIN.
3rd gen RX-7 has FD in the VIN.
1st gen RX-8 has FE in the VIN, so I'm calling it an FE. /lobby

Happy motoring.

Another example of something taken for granted by some, yet new information for others. Greater education and knowledge is what it is all about. While I knew what a FD was as well as many of the others, I had no idea regarding the origin. Obviously old news to many, yet not to others. Thanks for sharing all of this information.

GC8 = general term for any RS from '98 to '01, correct usage is the '98 to '01 4-dr WRX

GD = Any new age body (bugeyes and new new age), except the wagon which is the GG.

The GDA/GGA is the typical WRX, the GDB/GGB denotes the STi.
