I have an RX-8 that I purchased through a dealer and about 6 months later I realized that there used to be a turbo on the engine (or at least I'm assuming so) because there is a very definite outline on the rear end of where a turbo badge used to be. I have always noticed a faint "hissing" sound whenever I push the gas pedal down just before it starts to accelorate and then again as I let me foot off of the gas pedal. I thought this was just normal for the car until I realized there used to be a turbo in it. I am thinking that maybe the blow-off valve was left on the car, is that possible? Do you think the "hissing" sound is coming from a blow-off valve that was left on and would it hinder my horsepower? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I'd lay a bet that the person you bought it from found a Turbo badge from a completely different car and put it on the 8 to pretend it was faster than it actually is, and the hissing sound is a vacuum hose leak.
Do some research about blow off valves and where they get installed, and then go take a peek under the hood.
