Toyota finally joins the HP wars
So it looks like Toyota is becoming a participant in the Horsepower Wars (even though they once said they wouldn't). I have to say the new V6's stats are impressive;
3.5L V6
280 HP
260 lb/ft torque
22/31 mpg
Too bad it's (for now) only available in the upcoming Avalon. I wonder why they would drop such a powerful engine in there instead of the upcoming GS300, which is meant to be a sports sedan.
I have to say it looks like Nissan really started something when they began dropping that VQ into just about everything they make; 3.5 liter V6s making 250 hp and up are popping up everywhere-Benz, Toyota, and next Ford.

Yeah that would be nice! Toyota has already started dropping 2AZFE's on every car that will have a 4-cylinder. There has been a Scion TC with 500 FWHP boosted by one shop. Too bad it's a FWD. Toyota should release an MR2 with better design using the 2AZFE engine.

I have heard so many rumours regarding the next supra I don't know what to make of them anymore. Some reports say it will be 350z territory $$ wise alongside a 6 figure super car, some say it is the 6 figure super car. I have heard V8, V8TT, V10, V10TT.
I think they're going to suprise us. I hope they suprise us! :D

That's kinda what I am hoping for too. Although, if they can get a F1 inspired V10 in there with a 8000 + redline, and keep the cost down and have the good old toyota reliability, I wouldnt complain. It's not going to happen, but it would awesome.

My dad just bought two Scion Tc's ... for my sisters. They sure are fwd, but man do they handle nice. for 17 G's it looks better and handles better than most cars under 20 grand.
The suspension on that car is really nice though, and the FWD doesn't really bother me when i drive it. Toyota builds some nice @ss cars. The Scion Tc is one hell of a car, it's so reliable... as in extremely reliable.
That engine is sweet as candy. Quiet and has torque down low... i dont even have to rev higher than 3,000 RPM in daily driving.
Toyota needs a nice sportscar with a 4-cyliner - turbo or a V-6. They should have stuck with INLINE-6 BABY... all the way... 2jz...

The next Toyota Tacoma/Hilux will feature a 245 hp/280 lb-ft, 4.0 liter V6. Sounds like Toyota is really trying to get some of its power mongers back.
Does Toyota have a new generation 3S-GTE? That would be cool to build upon; I've seen little SW20s with over 750 hp. Case in point: Phoenix's Power.

The new Avalon V6 is a destroked version of the Tacoma/4Runner/Tundra 1GRFE V6. Thus is makes a lot of sense that this will engine will make it into future Lexuses and other RWD Toyotas. The MZ series would have taken too much engineering to make suitable for a RWD platform considering the engine was already 11 years old(wich is an eternity it Toyota's view). They took the opportunity to start from scratch. It is a dual purpose engine. It can be altered for RWD cars and trucks, and for transverse FWD applications. The GR series is made to replace the VZ and MZ series. The MZ V6 will be gone after the current Camry, Solara, Highlander, Sienna get redesigned. So the 3.3 3MZFE is the swan song for the MZ family.

The Avalon is a very very sweet car. They had 3 of them opened in the Detroit Autoshow for people to sit. The interior is AMAZING.
I'm glad Toyota is finally paying some attention to the HP numbers. Can't wait for the new Supra plans to come out.
