Test drove a Porsche Cayman S

I recently bought a Porsche 911 (996) so I decided to go for a spin in a Cayman S since I had interest in the car before buying the 911. I must say that the Cayman S has to be one of the best values on the road. In another year or two you will be able to get these in the low-mid 30k's. The car is balanced very well, is extremely responsive, and pulls hard up to it's top speed. This car makes going 60-120 a lot of fun. Overall the brakes are excellent, the handling is among the best (although I feel a little more confident in my RX8, might be because I'm not trying to wreck a dealers $63K car). This car is very similar in performance to the 911 996 Carrera. I like the mid mount engine, as the back seats in a 911 are useless. I do like the look of the 911 a little better but man the Cayman S was a blast to drive and looks pretty sweet. There are very few cars I would own and a Cayman S is one of them. I love the engine, it has an incredible power band and pulls hard through the gears. If you're looking to upgrade your RX8, this is a good buy.

My father bought a Cayman S nearly a year ago and I drive it once in a while. It's an awesome car and I love the exhaust note (GRrrrRRRR'ing all teh way up the power band) and how clean the car cuts through corners. In midturn it's even more controllable than my 8 and it oversteers with much more control. It doesn't just rip and break away it's very progressive with its grip.

I love the interior too. Sitting in it just makes you feel special. Everything feels so tech to the touch.

If I had the budget, the 2 seater lifestyle and only drove it to the country clubsto play golf I would gladly swap cars with my dad. LOL

Really? Wow, I have been eyeing these for a while myself, by 2010 I will be looking for another pure sports car(keeping the 8) , while I have been eyeing to get a used Z-06,911, or even the the next RX-?, the Cayman S has really caught my eye, one day one parked right next to me in a parking lot , so I decided to check it out. I must say I was really impressesed from the car stance to the ergonomics of the interior , to just the overall car.

Sounds like a blast to drive! I will have to check it out when I am ready to purchase. Thanks for your input too!

Yeah I was going to wait another year for them to come down in price but got a great deal on a 03 911 Carrera 4. They are a great buy, I think the RX8 is the best buy under $20K but when these things hit the low-mid 30K's they will be a steal. I've seen them as low as $43K right now. They came out in 06 for those who didn't know. Porsche offers tons of awesome options too, PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) which lowers the car an inch and stiffens the billstien shocks with a push of a button. Also offer ceramic coated brakes, the Cayman S with everything is an incredible performance machine. At least for an entry-level exotic/super car. And yeah, it does give you a good feeling sitting at a stop light, everyone looks at your car. Not that I really care, but hey some do.
