There's GM for you. I still expect the Pontiac Solstice hype to fall apart quickly once that car is out to market both in terms of material and build quality and flaws in mechanicals and driving dynamics.

It was pushed back over a month ago, but way to keep on top of things. :p I would think a delay would be better, than rushing to market. BTW Mercedes recently recalled 1.3 million vehicles (for braking system defects). From what I read of the GM recalls it was stuff like: faulty tail lights, faulty signal lights, accelerator sticking not allowing the engine to goto idle speeds, and 4 million trucks whose tailgate cables corrode and may break.

I would rather have a car held back and potential problems be fixed then sending a car out that may not get the estimated gas milage, or inflated horsepower numbers.

The largest part of the recall (1.5 million vehicles out of the ~2 million recalled) was due to defective center safety belts in the second row of a few of their SUVs, in which the belts rode a little too high and so may not adequately secure shorter passengers in the case of a crash. A bit less serious than the Mercedes recall, or even Honda's transmission recall last year, but it affects far more vehicles because GM sold far more defective vehicles than the other manufacturers did. All the more reason to never buy an SUV :p

As for the Solstice, I could see this car being rather bland in terms of driveability, but I can also see GM giving us a fun little car to toss around. After all, this is the same company that produces the Vauxhall VX220 and the Opel Speedster, so I'll reserve judgment until the car is actually out and I have a chance to take one for a spin. It's too bad the car was delayed, but I think that the buyers who have preordered a car will be thankful if GM can iron the kinks out and address any unforseen problems before the car gets shipped rather than waiting til it's already out on the market. As we saw on this board back when the '8 first came out, doing the latter can disappoint and even alienate many of the first people to own the car, which is the last thing GM needs right now.

When I first read the sentence, I thought it said that Onstar can locate ******. No wonder the basic service is $16.95 a month.

For that matter, your EZPass gives a handy list of where you've been.

This is great - my boss was in last week to brag about how he preordered a Solstice as a "toy" and he'll have it by June. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Too bad for all the good people who ordered one.
