I think he was mostly pointing out the differences/similarities in dimensions. The 8 has a longer wheelabse, but shorter overall length, and has a wider track. The interior dimensions are very interesting, as well.
This is not at all interesting. I'm sorry but to compare 2 TOTALLY different cars just because they have doors with SIMILAR (not even the same) hinges? What is interesting about this? Hey my Hummer H2's enigine hood opens the same as a 12ton semi, a Leer Jet, the latest Ferrari, and my old Green Machine I used to have when I was 8 . . . I can't believe both Road & Track AND Car & Driver missed these tantalizing head to head comparisons
Sorry for the crabby post, I have to work on Sat with a bunch of screaming kids in downtown Atlanta.
I think its relavent since the RX8 and Saturn Quad Coupe are the first two cars in recent history (1 is a real sports car and the other is just a sporty-type car) to have to 2 suicide rear doors.
I do find the exterior/interior dimesions interesting since in some ways the are very similar. Its also interesting while the RX8 has a smaller engine yet it has almost a 100 HP advantage over the Quad coupe, but on the other hand the RX8 only has a 14 lb/ft. of torque advantage over the Saturn.
While a loaded Rx8 is around $33,000 a loaded Quad Coupe is around $20,000 and when the 220HP Quad Coupe Redline apears in March of 2004 it will most likely have a base price of $20,000 and a loaded one will be around $23,000.
While the people who know about cars will know that these cars dont compete against each other for obvious reasons but the average-Joe will most likely confuse these cars because Saturn will heavily advertise they were the first to have the rear access doors since the Quad Coupe was launched as a 2003 and the RX8 will be a 2004.
You might mock me thinking that people will confuse these two cars but there are alot of people out there who dont know crap about cars and are really-really clueless.:D
OH I can hear it now:
Stranger in parking lot: " Wow! your car has those cool rear door thingies. Is that a Saturn?"
Response: "No, its a a Mazda RX8"
Stranger: " Can you put alot of stuff or adult-size people in the back?"
I don't want to talk to anyone who asks me if that's a Saturn. Beat it dork. Hey, trucks have been using these doors for several years now. Nothing revolutionary really. I don't think the RX-8 will ever be mistaken for a Saturn. LOL.

Someone once walked up to me and said, with utmost sincerity, "Hey, nice Honda!" (-_-) They are out there...and too many, if you ask me.

Still euphoric!
Now that is known the an automatic RX8 does 0-60 in 9.5 secs, theres a good chance that an RX8 might get beat by a Quad Coupe in a stop light drag. Of course the Quad coupe would get smoked in the twisties but could you imagine some Saturn owner telling all their friends that there $16,000 Quad Coupe smoked a $30,000 Rx8 on the way to work.
