Prettymuch how I thought it would go (assuming the S2K didn't have a passenger), but it would have been a lot closer if the G35 wasn't carrying an extra passenger.

that was a pretty cool video - the only time the G35 was close was from a 60mph roll.

That was a pretty good video.

Ike I also wonder if the results would have been the same with the camera man sitting in the s2000 instead of the G35.

The G35 and s2000 are pretty damn close. But I thought the RX-8 was slightly faster than a G35? I wonder how an RX-8 would have faired in the same vid.

Properly driven G35C MTs trap 5 or so mph higher than the RX-8 so they are quite a bit faster.

how are they the same with the 05 having a 2.2L displacement and the redline lowered. not to mention the torque is a little more.

are the gearings different?

The '04 had the 2.2L.

The '04 plus is a little faster since it has a wider powerband and is putting a little more hp to the wheels.

i figured the 8 would be near neck and neck with the S2K, but i don't think that's the case. looks like i'm gonna have to run my car at a track and see what this thing can really do.

Go for it man, it's a lot of fun even if you don't pull good times your first time out, breaking into the 14s would probably be a good goal. When you figure the S2k is putting out in the area of 25 or so more WHP than the RX-8 and weighs less, the S2K has a pretty good advantage given similar drivers.

I'd be interested in seeing the pulls more against the G35C and RX-8 since I think they are similarly classed.

As Ike said, the 2.2 is noticeably more powerful than the 2.0, and it's torque curve is much friendlier--almost flat from around 3k to redline, with a spike at VTEC. However, the older version has a 9k redline, allowing it to go faster in a particular gear, so fewer shifts. In a race between the two, whether on a drag strip, autocross or road race course, it's probably a driver's race.

I have never driven the earlier version, but I've been on the track with them, and my car is always faster on the straights than the earlier car (no driver skill involved), and they are equal on the turns (assuming equal driver skill), but there are times that I am put to the choice of shifting (with the accompanying loss of time) or sitting at redline (instead of accelerating), where the earlier version doesn't have that, at least at our local track (Pacific Raceways outside Seattle).

i'm pretty sure the S2k will beat the 8 whether it's the drag strip or track.

If the RX-8 driver is significantly more skilled than the S2000 driver, the RX-8 will win. If the drivers are equal skill, more or less, the S2000 should win, but not by a lot. The only exception, I think, is that I suspect that the S2000 gets to very high speeds quite a bit quicker than the RX-8, so, on a track with a long straight, the S2000 would pull away pretty well there, I think.

Rule of thumb is that each tenth is about a car length so up to 100 or so it would probably be in the area of 7-10 car lengths
