rx8 vs. wrx

Don't they pump out something like 220 hp? I was just wondering because i got challanged by a wrx owner the other night who kept trying to intimidate me by revving his turbo.....i told him i wouldnt race for the main reason it was pouring out( and i dont really care about proving my car to some 16 year old) and I mean come on a rear-wheel drive against and all-wheel drive car in the rain....was he just looking to boost his self-esteem??? he told me the rain wasnt a factor...I know what the results would be under those conditions but does the rx8 have a chance under dry conditions??

had a run in with a wrx (the 220hpcar), merging on the freeway.......he could not catch me when we hit the highway..........they are a pretty close match. The sti would be a different story.

I think from a roll it going to be pretty close, probably a drivers race. From a dig the WRX has a big advantage. AWD makes for a very consistant launch as well as a very quick departure.

RX-8 versus the WRX in what?

Anyway, you don't have anything to prove with your car. Just forget about it.

anyone that dares to challenge some stranger on the street like that without provokation is a tool that does not even worth acknowledging.

i guess you have to actualy own an 8 to see that there needs to be no "provokation"

That's about right, from a roll it's pretty damn close with the 8 having an edge over 100mph due to the gearing in the WRX, from a dig the WRX has the advantage. Keep in mind this is stock and not a lot of WRXs stay stock for long.

It's funny that you say that because this morning I saw a WRX go by and it had a stock pipe on it. I couldn't believe it. I can't remember the last time I saw one with a stock pipe (on the road). My guess is that has to be one of the most commonly modded new crop of cars out there percentage-wise.

Wouldn't the 8 possibly have the slight advantage from a roll due to drivetrain loss too?

Yeah... I experienced somewhat the same thing... a WRX pulls up besides me and revs his engine a little... the light turned green and he punched it. I drove the way i would normally.. and i wasnt too far behind him... i wonder what would of happened if i punched it too.

Well... if the RX-8 was actually making the HP mazda claims it does yeah, that would make sense. However the RX-8 and WRX make about the same HP to the wheels and also weigh about the same as well as trap about the same in the 1/4 mile.

Towndrunk yeah, it's a car that is modded by its owners frequntly, and don't let the stock muffler fool you, it really doesn't mean much. There are a lot of WRXs out there with what is called a stealthback which a turboback (catless) exhaust that retains the stock muffler. Usually the ones that sound like they're modded are the ones to not worry about as much, BoV, CAI, do very little and often hurt the performance of the WRX so if you hear one of those odds are it may be slower than a stock WRX.

Sorry, I meant even with the HP issue taken into consideration. I was thinking about 25% drivetrain loss compared to about 15%.

My friend owns a slighty modded (intake, exhaust, BOV) WRX and I would say that those things have a lot of power. Im pretty sure that if we raced at a light, he would take me, but freeway race would probably be a different story.

Deeping on if he has a turboback or catback he might be lucky if he's as fast as a stock WRX, CAIs and BoVs are known to decrease HP rather than increase it in WRXs.

i know the sti has a controller for the 4wd that lets you put all power to the rear. my friend and i ran them in the rain threw 3rd from a light. we both spun like hell of the line and stayed very even threw the shift into 2nd. then he pulled about 1 1/2 lengths on me out of no were right after the shift to second. he had someone in the car with him and i wouldn't put it past him to role the **** up for his buddy. anyway full throttle in 3rd is nice....win he shifted out of 3rd i gained it all back:D hey shelly dont give me any hell about posting "KILLS" thanx

hmm... i went from a roll (like 5mph) with a 03 or 04 WRX (non bug-eye) that at least had an exhaust and had him by about a car length at the end of 3rd gear when I got off the gas

FWIW I also has a passenger and he didn't...

Unhappy

Hey guys i just got smoked by a SRT-4 last night bout 2 car-link, i feel really bad, b/c our 8's don't have enough touqe to play with, i think it's got to be a cheaper way to get more touqe then just a turbo, that coast $7000, and race a WRX.....??
anyone know a good way to beef the touqe up some?

I also had a chance to compete with a wrx on the highway. I won't say anything, due to forum's rules, only that the wrx was slower... maybe that guy wasn't a good driver? I dunno. My trunk was also loaded and I had a friend of mine as passanger, while the wrx-guy was driving alone... too bad for him:D
