RX-8 or WRX help me plz

Hello all I’m new to the board. Well im in the market for a new car. Its come down to two choices, either the WRX or the RX-8. Can anyone help me to lean toward one. I still have yet to test drive the RX-8 since it is not here till June/ July. I have seen it in car shows and I like it a lot just a few problems with the style. I don’t like the 4 doors, and also the slits in back of the front tires. Other then those two problems I love the car. Both cars would be fully loaded except for the navigation, as of now. I am looking at a 2003 WRX (don’t like the new lights) vs. a 2004 rx-8. So thanks for your help and if anyone has any info to put in it would be great; pros and cons to both of the cars thank you very much. Also I live in New York so we get a little snow here so the WRX with the AWD looks kinda nice but the RX-8 is also looking good. Thanks again
Joey

use the search....it'll help you find threads that has comparos with wrx and RX-8's.

But from what I know. If you have the money want a all around good car get the RX-8. And if you just want a car with more power and cost less get the WRX. But if you're talking about the STI thats a different story.

As for me I'd get the RX-8. But with my budget I have no choice but to get the WRX. Besides since I go snowboarding\mountain biking a lot I like to be able to throw a bike or a snowboard in the back of the WRX wagon and drive to the mountains\hills. Besides the RX-8 won't look too good with a roof rack.

So what is it you had in mind for a car. Something that can go fast with good handling like the WRX or something that can go fast with good handling along with better stereo, the cool sound of the wankel, 50:50 weight distribution, suicide doors (how can you not like it), looks better than the bug eyed Rex, simple engine design (less maintenance). But I'd bet you'd pay less monthly on the insurance for the WRX.

Well, you got two different types of fun cars here. The WRX is a rally inspired all-wheel drive turbo engined car. The RX8 is a RWD, high reving NA rotary engined car. Both have a reasonable amount of amenities, but I think most people give the RX8 better marks for interior quality. The WRX will be more practical.

In the real world, the WRX will give you more "seat in the pants feel" when accelerating with the greater torque and will be probobly be a bit faster at lower speeds (from a stop) while the RX8 will likely have a better top end (100 MPH Plus). From a rolling start or on the highway...I think the two might be close..but I'd give the RX8 the edge. The RX8 will give you a high reving (which can be quite fun) engine to enjoy.

In terms of handling.....both have body roll, but are still pretty good handling cars. It'll probobly be a matter of preference of the AWD vs. RWD characteristics. The RX8 has a great gearbox while the WRX's is pretty bad.

The WRX is much cheaper than the RX8 (I think last year's models are going for invoice), but if money is not an object I'd opt for the RX8. Of course, if you can afford the RX8, you could get an EVO or an STI, which offer much greater performance (albeit with far less amenities and a worse ride quality).

Umm.. dude.. you posted a poll on an RX-8 forum.. It would be hard pressed for the WRX to win more votes here of all places.. I'm not saying it can't but let's be real here.. hehehehe

With that said, it's really up to you and what you are looking for. I mean, the two cars are totally different in my opinion. Its like apples and oranges. What, in a car, means more to YOU.

Sorry I'm not of much help. :p

The previous responses are dead on, these are two different cars.
If you want to compare somthing to the WRX Sti, check out the Mitsubishi Evo.

Car and Driver did a good comparison of the two.

Personally, between the WRX and the EVO, I'd go with the WRX.

The RX-8 you are looking at costs $31.1k. The 'old look' WRX is about $24.7k plus options (about $1700) so you would save about $4700 over the RX-8.
If you are really undecided (i.e. if you even have to ask) then I would always go with the cheaper option. If you really want to spend about $31k and cannot commit to the RX-8 then you should also look at the EVO 8 - it looks much better in real life than photos. Or perhaps a fairly basic G35...

wrong place to ask the question..this being a rx-8 forum most people are gona tell you to get the rx-8. depends what you want.....w. the rx-8 you'll get an all around better car being that it actually has an interior compared to the wrx's trash, but if its the engine your looking for you have to admire the wrx

Personally I don't understand why people keep asking anyone on any car webboard to pick the car for them? You can gather as much raw data as you can but in the end it's YOU that will be owning the car so it's YOUR decision after you drive each vehicle to make if you can live with the positives, negatives and characteristics of each vehicle. I would never let anyone sway my opinion on such a decision.. sure I would listen to experienced input but in the end I'm driving it for the next 4 yrs so I better like it..

I would agree the WRX is better if money is a little tight, but I would (obiously) chose the RX8 over the WRX.

On a side note I also play Lacrosse. Great sport. Sorry just had to bring that up.

The WRX is definitely cheaper than the RX-8. But if you don't really care nor need the packages and options/accessories, getting a base RX-8 is only a couple grand more than the WRX.
