I'm thinking about taking a look at this tomorrow. If the car only has 30K km should be in good shape inside and out. It says 80k in add, not sure which is a typo.

Thoughts??

25th Anniversary Edition? I don't think so! That would mean it's a '03 or '04, but it's obviously a '93 model.

That bit of false advertising would have me skeptical already.

I think I just figured it out. '93 was Mazda's 25th year in Canada. Apparently they offered some special models, but I can only find info on a Special Ed. MX-3

-OR-

It could be the anniversary of the first rotary, the R100 came out in 67-68 apparently

I bought my RX-7 new back in '93, and there certainly was no such "anniversary" model in the US or Japan at the time. If it was to celebrate the 25th year of Mazda Canada, it will be interesting to see what's really different about the car.

Usually, Mazda specials have a unique exterior color, maybe an interior upgrade and BBS rims or something like that. But from the picture it looks like an ordinary R1 packaged model.

That FD is too expensive. I think it would be less if it was modded though. For some reason, they always are.

If you are interested in buying this FD, make sure to hook the engine up to a boost gauge to make sure the turbos are working. It is nice though there are RX-7's like this one that are in immaculate condition. But, why go with that when you can get an RX-8? :p

I am looking for a second car and have found a few on Ebay that are from dealers and have low mileage. II am not going to buy anything on Ebay though, I'll make the trip to wherever to see the car up close and personal like you are doing. I'm also looking for a good Supra but most of them have been modded and that is not what I want, I want to do the mods myself. Well at least I want to buy the mods and oversee the build!!

That car looks great but it does have quite a few discrepencies in the ad so be careful and look that thing over with a super fine tooth comb. I have met many people who bought a car on Ebay and it turned out to be not exactly as advertised.

It's a ways to travel to see it, but my 3rd gen RX-7 is for sale. It will be going in the auto trader next week. The car is in excellent condition.

You can see pics here:

Almost all that I find for sale are like that, they list the low miles on the new engine but they actually have a lot more miles...

Exactly.

It is becoming more and more difficult to find a clean FD that hasn't had the motor redone.

Mine (link posted above) is still on the original motor, which runs as strong as ever. It has 86,000 miles on the chassis and motor.

That's awesome. Rob, you should post your FD for sale in the FS/WTB forum.

P.S. - I would love to own an FD, but I can only have one dream car at a time. :o

It is posted in the FS/WTB forum! I posted a link to it on the previous page.

I understand about one dream car at a time!

Shelleysman, I'm looking for an FD and yes I have looked at Rob's but it is too soon right now. After the first of the year I'll be aggrivating the wife to near death to see what she thinks about it. As for the Supra, I'd like to get a 98 N/A. That way I can play with it a little and it shouldn't have many miles on the engine, they are much cheaper than the TT's.

Don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but perhaps some of us lusting after old FDs and Supras are looking via rose tinted glasses. I know I do.

I have very fond memories of my own FD, but these images were from back when the car was new and in its prime. I look at photos on the web now and think, hey that FD looks great. But whenever I see them in person, it's obviously a 10-12 year old car. If it's been heavily modded, forget it, too risky, probably a ticking time bomb. Even if it's stock, you need to check them very very carefully, the twin turbo setup is very temperamental.

Don’t get me wrong the FD is still a great car, a supercar for its time. But when I look at a tired 11 year old used sample vs. my brand spanking new RX-8, I could never go back. But if one can justify having both, more power to you.

I have looked at a few FD's and I know what you mean. In most cases a picture tells about .001% of the story. I have researched both cars and I know I'll find the right ones someday, I am just getting tired of waiting. I wouldn't mind a little fixer upper but I can't handle a project car at this time. There are some very nice cars out there for the money, key words being for the money. I know I will most likely not find one in showroom condition but I still press on!

You are exactly right about the ticking time bomb Hachi! I firmly believe that 75% of used sports cars fall in this catagory. Even if it has only been owned by one person, you will never truly know how the car was driven through its life from break-in to sale. I feel bad for the poor bastard who buys my old RX8! IMO, unless one is buying an old sports car as a project and not their daily driver, its a HUGE gamble.

I think it is safe to say that the majority of people that are looking to buy 3rd Gen RX-7's have a pretty good idea of what they are getting into. I know I certainly did before I bought mine 7 years ago. Did that stop me? Hell no! All the great attributes of the FD outweighed the negatives by a very wide margin.

It is definitely a car that I want to have owned before I die. One day i will have more time to spend fixing one up too, and by that time the parts will be even less expensive!!

the 25th Anniversary edition was the Canadian version of the R1 model. for that much money, at 30k kms it is a STEAL!!! man, i'd shoot you if you didn't buy that car, even just to resell it in the states!!!

the 25th came only in black, had fancy floor mats, and the R1 appearance lips + spoiler, as well as the extra oil cooler.

Aside from the fancy floor mats, it doesn't seem any different from a normal R1 that could be had in black, red, or yellow. Does that mean that Canada never got the R1 unless you bought the 25th Anniversary edition?
