Production Camaro revealed!
This is it. The 2010 Chevy Camaro, revealed in all its glory. According to details we've been told by the folks breaking the embargo, the new Chevy Camaro will come in LS, LT and SS (yes, we know there's a badge there that says "RS")— and be available in either 6-speed manual or auto flavors. Under the hood, a 296 HP 3.6-liter V6 or a 416 HP 6.2-liter V8 with cylinder deactivation. And check out that interior — looks very muscular to us. Weight? How about 3,747 lb [same as 2006 GTO] — lighter than the Challenger. Full details below the jump.
The Camaro will come in LS, LT and full-on SS specs and be available with 6-speed manual and auto transmissions. Under the bonnet sit fuel-efficient 296bhp 3.6-liter V6 and 416bhp 6.2-liter V8 engines, which can run on fewer cylinders to improve economy.
It shouldn't just be a burnout king either, handling should be pretty good thanks to an all-independent suspension setup and a StabiliTrak stability control system. 4-pot Brembo brakes front and rear shed the speed on the SS. Weight balance is split 52/48 front/rear too, but the Camaro is a porker, weighing in at more than 1,700kgs.
The interior gets cool LED lighting, leather seats on posher models and dials and gauges inspired by 1969 Camaros. The US gets the car in early 2009, while we'll get it some time after that. Super.

A 300HP V6 with cylinder shutoff might keep it in the game, even if gas prices keep rising. Not bad, considering the old RS. Of course, as with the Challenger, you need the V8 for it to be genuine muscle hah.

And thats just the V6. The SS is going to be beastly.

badass. pure badass. nice numbers, love those throwback gauges, and can you say "6-speed manual"? will be interesting to see how Ford counters this, at least engine-wise.

Much rather have a bigger cubby than the gauges but from what I understand it's a nod to the late 60's Camaro's. If it's priced right I'll most likely get this in a year or two. I'm curious what the SS will have appearance wise to differentiate it from the V-6 here. Guess we'll find out on Monday at the dealer reveal thing.
Ford will have to do something more than a refresh and larger engine. IRS, almost 50/50 weight balance and over 400hp for probably a few grand more than a Mustang GT is s hell of a bargain.

It's a Cavalier
I hadn't noticed or read about that! Not a Veyron style HP gauge, but a torque gauge. Theyre going to have to have a kit to change the scale on that thing. I bet we see 500-1000 lb-ft Camaros a few months after release.

That SS is gonna a be a bad ****. I don't know if you guys realize it or not, but to get an NA LS3 to a very streetable 500whp is not difficult. It's a great engine.

Too heavy. Looks Great. Interior looks acceptable for the price point of the car. Mustang owners might as well pack it up. NO WAY would i buy ANY stang over this car. And that goes for the GT500 too.
Mmmm... LS goodness in what looks to be a good looking and handling handling package. I think we have a winner.
