Like the article said..porsche like any other company has to evolve any order to survive in the longer term. It'll probably sell well like the cayenne.
I don't really think they should offer a sedan, I don't think it's good looking compared to a 911 style body, it obviously looks like a stretched out porsche.
This thing is actually growing on me. I would get it over a Benz CLS/S-class or possibly the new 7 series but I still like the Maserati Quattroporte for a big sedan in that class. Cars like this and the Cayenne probably actually fund the development of the hotter Porsche sports cars.
I have to say I think this thing fell out of the ugly tree and hit EVERY branch on the way down. I'm sure it's a delight to drive and performs extremely well for a 4-door car, but damn, it's just so ugly.
Maybe it looks better in person, I haven't had the chance to scope one out yet. I sure hope so.

are you referring to the panamera? [didn't click on the links] The panamera is--according to reviews by pro-racers-- a magnificent car to drive despite being a full size saloon car. it handle's remarkably well by saloon standards --not like a gt3 of course--and the twin turbo version has enough power to outperform the majority of cars on the road, so it still has the soul of a Porsche.
it's pretty sweet in person. looks great next to other cars. and it drives like a porsche. i was skeptical till i drove it. it does not compromise performance at all.
i'm sort of a fan now even though i was one of the first to get upset about the cayenne and a four door. the engineers kept their souls with this one.
the looks take a bit to appreciate. but trust me, once you can see from every angle, you'll be impressed.

Yeah, I am sure it's every bit a Porsche in terms of the drive. I just can't get past how ugly I think it is. Porsche typically makes beautiful cars, but the lines and proportions of this one are just wrong to me. Why does it look like a 4 door hatchback? It suffers from the same problems the G35 sedans suffer from - they just look a little bit bloated and it throws off the lines.
Of course, this is only my opinion, but I would consider myself disappointed in Porsche's efforts.

we have one sitting next to a gt3 and an r8 on the lot. it doesn't look out of place.

It looks ok in factory trim, but once you slap some aftermarket bodywork on it it really comes alive as something unique, and yes there will be an aftermarket, Hamann, Gemballa, Novitec, Mansory, etc etc

Its not really a sedan, its a wagon...which is why I hate it. If the gave it a trunk/lost the hatch, it would be sexy. Everything Porsche makes doesn't have to be shaped like a 911. The Porsche designers have been asleep at the wheel since the CGT, imo.
I just can't accept this profile as a Porsche. I don't care about the performance or anything like that. It's a 4 door hatchback and that's just not right.
You mean to tell me that Porsche, with all their design prowess, can't come up with something better than that?

well, the Porsche design department is one of the lazies in the market to be honest. they haven't changed the design for decades. the new 911s look exactly the same as the old ones.
The Panamera looks terrible in photos, but I'm saving final judgment until I see one in person.
Also, props to Mansory for that design concept - I've hated everything else they've made so far, if they pull off the real life version of that Panamera well... Good job

I wouldn't say "exactly" the same. And I don't know about being lazy, they design alot more than just cars. Cameras and audio equipment just to name a couple.
saw one in person and i think its hott ... but that could be just me
