Our New Garage!!!

Well after having two two door cars for a long time. I finally got tired of packing up the luggage, dog, wife, computers and other misc junk in to the car everytime we have to go on a trip!

Skip to the bottom for pictures, otherwise read on for a CRAZY car buying experience.

After searching on the net and narrowing down the choices, on Monday we started the hunt for a new car. We test drove: Nissan Murano, Acura MDX, Infiniti FX35, and the Lexus RX350 and 400h. Then we came home and talked about them all. Then on Tuesday we went out again with further research in hand and a priority list in this order:
1. Acura MDX
2. Nissan Murano
3. Infiniti FX35
4. Lexus RX350

We test drove them all again and kept coming back to the Acura.

So now let the games begin.....
For sake of the conversation:
Dealers in town = Dealer 1 and Dealer 2
Model we wanted: Acura MDX with Tech Package, Rear Entertainment Package, and Sport Package
I also knew the Edmonds MSRP, Invoice and that there was a $2k Dealer unadvertised Marketing incentive.

Monday: Went to Dealer 1 first. Really nice dealership and salesman. Also met the general manager. This was our first test drive here. We sat down with them and they offered $1k over invoice with 15,000 miles of service for free and included wheel locks, pinstriping, cargo mat and upgraded floor mats. I wasn't too impressed with the deal so we left to go test drive other choices.
Tuesday: Went back to Dealer 1 and said we decided on the MDX but I wasn't happy with the price. At this point I didn't know about the $2k Marketing incentive, so I offered to pay invoice and they had to throw in all that they said before plus the towing package and roof rails with cargo holder. They agreed but I still didn't like the price. They offered to let us take one home for the night, so we agreed.
Still not happy with the deal I called Dealer 2, told them the deal I was offered and asked what they could do. They told me they would beat any of the Dealer 1's prices. So, we drove over there (in the borrowed MDX mind you ). Talked to a very sleezy looking sales guy and the "sales Manager". They offered the same deal but $1100 below invoice and $4000 for our trade (that they hadn't seen yet). I didn't get a good feeling from these guys so I said we needed to sleep on it. They practically got down on their knees and begged us to buy the car, throwing all kinds of things out that I am almost positive they couldn't deliver on. I still left.

Wednesday: Had to return the borrowed MDX. So we went back to Dealer 1. Of course we wanted to talk numbers again with these guys. I also found the $2k dealer Marketing incentive on Tuesday night on the net. So we sat down with them, I told them that Dealer 2 offered $2k below invoice due to the Marketing Incentive and $4k for our trade. They got really nervous and were about to send us over to the other dealer because they couldn't match that. And at the last minute the General Manager came out and asked if he could call over to the other dealer and confirm this was a legit deal and he would send me over. (Uh oh busted). I let him call, and the other sales guy at Dealer 2 agreed that this is what he offered because he was so desperate. As soon as they hung up, my wife and I got phone calls from Dealer 2, then text messages (telling us not to buy and to come back), then another call. Dealer 2 was acting really sleazy and did not get the feeling that I could trust them.
The General Manager crunched some more numbers and decided that he could do $2k under invoice and $3k for my trade. He would include the 15,000 miles worth of service, throw in the roof rails and tow package and throw in the 7 year Car protection plan with unlimited free car washes, waxing every 6 months and leather treatment every 3 months. This dealer just seemed so much more trustworty and people that would treat us right when we went in (unlike most of the our Mazda dealers out there). So in the end we went with them and purchased a brand new 2009 Acura MDX with Tech Package, Sport Package, Rear Entertainment package, Bluetooth, Navigation, Voice Activation, 24" upgraded wheels, upgraded suspension, XM Radio and Traffic, and all the other standard features for the deal listed above!!

I can tell you this was one of the craziest car buying experiences I have ever had and after all that I definitely don't want to buy another car for a LONG time!!

Check out the pictures of the new toys outside the garage.

The MDX is a great SUV. We recently sold our 2003 Touring and I really miss it. I have had the new MDX as a loaner for the weekend and really enjoyed it. Hopefully my wife wants another one in the near future
