Get this! I was searching for RX-8 stuff online the other day and stumbled onto a different forum. It was for F-bodies (camaros and firebirds, if you are not familiar). They were absolutely trashing our beloved 8 like it was a Yugo! I was like OK, I'll try to defend her honor and possibly educate a few people. All I got was attacked. I tried to be as open minded and polite as possible, only trying to point out the good in the 8 and not ripping on their American muscle. It didn't go over very well at all. I got called: idiot, tool, dumbshit, and I think a few other choice names. I know that anything with an LS1 in it is faster than our cars and I didn't try to tell them anything different. They were all just really defensive and super pissy just because I was suggesting that I have a car that is not a POS. Someone even went so far as to say that Car and Driver is a biased mag when I brought up the 8 being on the 10 best list. When someone tells me that they have a great car, I'm like cool, I'm glad you like it. What is so hard to get about that concept? Anyway, if you want to check it out, it's at fbody.com. The biggest problem is that you argued with them. Everyone will favor their own car. You've got to understand that the american car guys are typically very close minded. They only like going fast and they don't care what a corner is. They don't care what car was rated what by who. All they care about is the fact that theirs are made in the US and that they are faster. To them the RX-8 is just rice. Leave them alone. You'll never win an argument against them on their forum and you'll never convince anyone other than what they already believe. It's a waste of time to try. I hope they don't come over here now to start a flame war. Yes it is sad that there aren't more open minded people out there. Some of the F-body guys are open minded. However, on the internet there are alot of kids and crybabies. Leave them alone. If they want to trash your car, so what? Who cares? Get over it. I don't like Camaros and would never own one. The only good thing they have going for them is the LS1. You couldn't give me one for free and expect me to keep it. I don't care how fast they are. In my opinion they are crap. So what? It's an opinion. People have a right to disagree. I don't care if others like their cars. That's their right. I don't bitch about their cars to them and I don't try to convince them that there are other good cars out there. It won't work anyways. I'd rather just agree to disagree and let everyone own what they want to. I don't think anyone should go over to another forum and start crap. All you'll get is flamed for it. Face it, in their eyes, the RX-8 is a Yugo. In my eyes, the Camaro is a lead weight with an engine. Big deal. Leave them alone. Don't bring trouble back here.

Another site of biased people who think they have the greatest ride on the road. Who cares? I love my car. I will still love it no matter how many people say they don't but the RX8 is unique and a headturner right off the showroom floor. Those cars are common and butt ugly imo. Yet another car that can get to the stoplight a whole SECOND faster then me! Wow! I would not trade the 8 for an evo,srt,firebird,gto, and on and on. If people can buy the 8 don't you think they had the means to buy the other cars? There are reasons they didn't and driving a big ol piece of crap a second faster then me and 95 percent of the rest of the time driving it stuck behind granny or an amish wagon in a no passing lane or town traffic congrats. I will say it a thousand times. Lets go the same route, same traffic and see how much quicker you get there. You won't even have your seatbelt off when I pull up next to you but the 8 is a turd, whatever. Much better car overall. Not even debateable, but you can't debate on their board. Total waste of time.

Ummm you're argueing with F body guys in a drag racing thread about what a great handler your car is. Considering the context the RX-8 was presented I think you're the one out of line. Take a look at any of the 350Z vs. RX-8 or RX-8 vs. STi, etc, threads here and it's almost the same thread. Save for the closed minded people are many of the forum members here.

Jeez, I was just trying to get a little support. How silly of me to think that I could get that on an RX-8 forum. I wasn't trying to start crap. I wasn't ripping on their cars and I wasn't shoving mine down their throats. I was just looking for a little tolerance and respect for other people with different tastes. I was trying to spread some comradery. Well are all gear heads to someone who would rather be golfing. I don't see why there has to be this major wall between the people who like cars just because they like different cars. It's like calling somone an idiot because he likes red head chicks instead of blondes...Ridiculous. Oh, and when I got on the thread it was directly from an RX-8 search and was simply titled RX8. I didn't know it was under a drag heading until later and it certainly wasn't evident from the conversation. I guess you can just call me the crusader from now on.

Thanks 71RoadRunner for saying it. The SRT-4 like the muscle cars are made to be fast in a straight line. People that are stupid enough to spend more money and buy an STi or an RX8 don't give a **** about going fast only. They want the overall package of performance, handling, and quality.

There are good, open minded, car enthusiasts in most forums. It's just that they're few and far in between in some forums compared to others. You will find hate towards other cars, on just about any car forums, other than their own cars. It is just the nature of being humans. No one like to hear that their car is slow or cheap looking. Nor do people feel 'secure' with what they already own so they feel they have to talk trash about other cars to satisfy their own ego.

I have two friends that are major car enthusiasts and they own sports cars. Yet, whenever I talk to them, they always have to justify with what they got, by saying Friend "A" car is not as good as mine because....*insert reason*, and vise versa. All I can do is agree and nod. I don't know why they must do that. After all, their cars are not even in the same catagory! Cars built with different purposes, reason, and price.

It is best to leave them be and think what they want to think. They felt their cars were the best of the bunch to suite their needs as did ourselves when we purchased ours. We don't need to defend our decisions because it is us that paid for it and not them.

Leave those morons be. They start with the lowest performance engine available, the cross plane crank V8, and revel in the the noise it makes.
L R L L R L R R has no exhaust resonance on its cylinder banks. The crankshaft is absurdly heavy, and turbochargers don't like the odd firing on the exhaust.
So those ford guys slap a Roots air pump on top of it and feel sophisticated.

LOL that sounded retarded. Turbochargers do just fine on LS1s. There are also a lot of people running centrigual or twin screw superchargers on LS1s.

Lowest performance engine available? Chevolet made the LS1 an in engine cam with over head valves to save space and lower reciprocating mass as well as make a more compact engine. What exactly is wrong with the crankshaft? So what exactly is your point?? Are you trying to say V8's are junk because they are old, the exhaust sounds bad (but they like them only because of that), they are slow because the crankshaft is heavy, and people put a supecharger on there to feel smart?

I hate to say it, but you didn't represent the RX-8 well on that board. Comments made were argumentative and in that light, I think they treated you reasonability well.

The things the people on the F-body site care about, are what the RX-8 is not. So trying to change their mind on what they like in a car is not going to go anywhere.

You don't go out to make a performance engine, and shoot yourself in the foot.
So if you are not out to make a performance vehicle, are you out to make a lot of noise (a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing), like so many harleys. If your bike is going to make a lot of noise (sport bikes with after market mufflers) at least be quick(GSXR1300), so the noise is fleeting.

I can't give you absolutes in a world full of relatives.

Those guys who are going to respond to your thread are always going to be people who are closed minded. If you're lucky, maybe you get one guy to agree, and the rest are going to flame. Generally, people who agree with you are going to read your post and never respond. People who disagree will likely let you know it. I have seen the same thing happen in this forum.

On a different note, they don't make those F-Body cars anymore, and for good reason. The market dictated a move towards cars that offered more than a big powerful engine. So take comfort in know that the owners of those cars are a dying breed.
