Acura is developing a new sports car to succeed the current NSX, according to a company news release.
Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.
"We are committed to having an ultra high-performance vehicle in the Acura lineup in the future," said John Mendel, senior vice president, automobile operations. "It's too early to comment on specifics, but the all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX."
During its 15-year run, the NSX's cumulative sales totaled 8,854 in the U.S. and more than 18,000 worldwide.

i LOVE the kick in the pants this car gives you when the VTEC engages! for me this is the ultimate in honda R&D just below it would be the s2000 and then i guess the integra/civic typeR's
The NSX was an awesome car, especially the insane NSX-R that beat a G34-R in the quarter mile and sailed by the new Lambos and about everything else on the track. It will certainly be a tough car to follow.
I want Acura to actually make a decently priced sports car, and I don't mean the RSX. They should have one for about 40k and one for about 60k.

They do; it's badged as a Honda. It's the S2000. And you can get a brand new one for about $30,000. Try it; you'll like it.
I am very interested to see what Honda comes up with as the successor to the NSX. I've always liked the NSX (enjoyed passing a couple of them on the track yesterday :p ), and I hope that Honda does want to keep a sports car at the top of the Acura and the Honda lines.

I know about the S2000, great little car :p. I was thinking something more in the Corvette/Boxter S sort of class and something around the price of a 911.

With luck, the NSX successor, wearing an Acura badge, will be something in the 911 class. I think that updating the S2000, by putting a nice VTEC V-6 in it, would boost sales, and give Porsche a competitor for the BS.
"New NSX!
Yes, this is real! Acura is getting ready to build its next supercar.
July 12, 2005 - Despite rumors to the contrary, Acura is developing a successor to its NSX supercar. Below is the actual press release sent to us by Honda...
To further enhance the division's performance image, Acura is developing a new sports car to succeed the award-winning NSX supercar. Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.

As the first-ever supercar from Japan, the NSX was created as a hand-built, exotic, mid-engine sports car that would establish entirely new levels of performance, refinement and drivability. The NSX went on sale in the summer of 1990 and the following year posted record U.S. sales of 1,940 vehicles. Through June of 2005, NSX cumulative sales totaled 8,854 in the U.S. and more than 18,000 worldwide.
During its 15-year run, the NSX has been showered with accolades including, Automobile Magazine's "Automobile of the Year and Design of the Year" awards, Popular Science's "Best of What's New," Road &Track's "Ten Best Cars in the World" list. Motor Trend magazine also named the NSX to its "Top Ten Performance Cars" list and touted it as "the best sports car ever built."
Acura designed the NSX as a technological and performance showcase. Among other innovations, it was the first production car to feature an all-aluminum body, chassis, and suspension and to utilize titanium connecting rods. It featured a transversely mounted dual overhead cam V-6 engine equipped with Acura's breakthrough VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system and a variable volume induction system.
Over time, the NSX received continuous updates to ensure its competitiveness and popularity with serious sports car enthusiasts. The NSX has also captured multiple championships in the highest levels of sports car and prototype racing."
that's the HSC concept from 1-2 years ago. I really liked it, except the back end could use a massage. Others, however, didn't take too fondly too it, apparently.
i love the nsx, always have always will. my father picked one up in '91 red/blck and it made me the car fan i am today, i grew up in the passenger seat of that car it was really a sick car, i almost considered trading my 8 in for a 91 one. well my dad got rid of it in 98 - 7.5 years with the thing in favor of trading it in for a porsche, with some cash of course and he says the day they come out with the new one he's getting it first day, which is good for me cus i get to drive it / trade on and off with him

The backend screams: "I really want to look like a GT-R..."
The 90's was a great era for Japanese sports cars, the NSX, Skyline GT-R, Supra Turbo, TT 300ZX and of course the FD RX-7. One by one each has passed on, now finally it's the NSX's turn, the last of the group and arguably the creme of the crop.
I just can't wait for the second coming of these sports cars, but they will all be very tough acts to follow. There's a beautiful white NSX sitting in the local Acura dealer. If only some of my stock investments were doing a bit better, I'd be tempted to ****** it up.
The front looks SEXY...but the rear looks FUGLY, why do they keep messing up the butt of cars (enter 350Z here...heck along with a bunch of new cars)
The NSX was always a heck of a car but I too wish they just made (not that I could buy it...lol) a 40K & 60K car. The S2000 is a good car...but the NSX was a great car. It really was the upper class of the sports car world from Japan.
I thought about it SLIGHTLY before I got my 8 but a 15 year old NSX was going for crazy money, that car is already basically a collectors car. We will miss you NSX...yes, even those who can't afford you...even old...lol.
I hate to hear the death or the end of sports cars...poor poor...Camaro, Chevy still aint bringing it back ARRRR...
I always thought that they needed to up the horsepower on this car as the years went by. The Porche's and Ferrari's were doing this so why weren't they?
I loved this car's looks it just didn't keep up in the engine department. How much did one of these weigh? That's probably another area for improvement from a 1991 design...
