cars off the hook. If its fun to drive, with some power and other goodies, sorta like an mazdaspeed version as the normal thing, but much more downgraded, then itd be killer.

A version of this car will come to the us as the Mazda3, the replacement for the Protege. My guess is what we see here is the replacement for the Protege5 sport wagon. I hope the sedan is able to keep the wagon's fantastic look.
Rumor also has it that while the 2.0L I4 will be standard, the US will have the 2.3L 160hp I4 from the Mazda6 as the top engine choice....at least until the Mazdaspeed3 arrives. Now that'll be smokin!
What from I have been able to drag out of the various mazda reps that come through the dealership. That is supposed to be the 2004 replacement for the protege/protege5. for some reason mazda has been very tight lipped about the car. They had a dealer meeting in Las Vegas back in Oct. where they showed the new Mazda 3, and mazdaspeed miata, and allowed the attendees to drive the rx8, and mazda6, but of course the owner of this dealership at that time was a complete tool, and only went to hang out with the other owners, drink, and gamble. he walked past the mazdaspeed miata, and mazda 3, but paid them no attention, and didn't even attend the ride and drive for the rx8, and 6. Needless to say I wasn't able to get any useful info from him, other than the cars looked good. But from what I understand, it is definatly heading for the NA market, it is supposed to have the 2.3L from the 6.
And now from the Canadian side of the border, my salesman has told me that they are expecting the first cars to arrive in August or September 2003. Too early to know for sure, but my source has been pretty good up to now on the RX-8.
