The MX-8

The MX-8
I might be signing my death warrant on this forum but rather than kill off the Eight in the US. Why can't Mazda not just retool the Eight's chasse to take the MX-5 engine throw in a Turbo and call it a MX-8? The body and chasse of the RX-8 is still a good sports car platform.

Hardly RX-8 discussion. Moved to general automotive.
Been discussed a lot, no one really understands it, many agree with you. The Miata forums generally disagree, saying it's a corruption of the chassis.

The platform although excellent and probably one of their best engineered ones ever...it is now outdated and expensive, once the NC MX-5 finishes production next year this platform tooling is finished.
It is all Skyactiv now...I would bet the new MX-5/Alfa will use the same modified platform as the CX-5 and 6 and new 3...more likely the new ND MX-5/Alfa will use the all new 3 Skyactiv platform exactly.
Production numbers are just not there (even with the Alfa) to have a specialized 'sports car' platform like the RX-8 and NC is/was...IMO
