Well, this really doesn't have too much to do with the RX8, but it is also a 'mod' that others may pursue so bear with me here.

Anyway, as many of you know I did a retrofit of the hid bowl and cutoff into my S2 halogen headlights. In doing so, I bought a set of Morimoto 3Five (35w) ballast kits from The Retrofit Source. Great kit that got a lot of praise.

Well interestingly enough, when i first got them (late last year), I immediately had some weird issues with one of the ballasts not igniting properly. Literally had to flick the lights on and off a few times before the ballast would fire. Turns out that the ballasts were soon recalled due to poor igniters. Free of charge, and got delivery in 2 days. Not bad.

So I got the replacements in January ... and last night one of my 'recall replacement' ballasts stopped igniting! ... bah .. so now im rocking the padiddle.

Fun story: Tonight I went to go turn on the car to run to the store ... 2nd ballast is dead now. Awesome ... stuck with no headlights lol.

Anyway, contacted TRS to see what they can do for me. They have been great w/ customer service in the past so hopefully they get me replacements ASAP.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone else with the 3Five ballast kits.

lol. did you get them after they had their recall? If so then you are probably fine. I was just told

I had ordered mine late last year and then they recalled them in December-ish.

do you remember if they said "DSP" on the front cover? if they did then you have the updated ones.

Anyway. I called them up. They first class all replacements so even if yours do die (3 year warranty btw) you get new ones in a day or two.

of course though they are backordered right now on the 35w morimotos so i need to wait till next week when they anticipate stock .

I know that this thread is a month old, however I've been having the same problem with multiple sets of Morimoto kits for the last 8 months. I've been sent multiple sets of ballasts / bulbs, yet the problem continues with the drive side light. I've even installed a harness from them in hopes of elevating potential stock wiring problems. This is a weird case as the problem seems to only be with the driver side regardless of ballast / bulb combo or wiring as I've swapped in multiple sets and from properly working passenger side. This might be a RX8 specific and or a battery / alternator problem.
