I sort of remember that the corners of the apex seals are glued in place as an assembly aid and snap off after assembly? I remember the old motors, particularly the 13B, you had to get hardened stationary gears and put snap rings on the gears on the rotors to prevent them from walking.

Picture 2 from pdx's post. The guy in the background is the race engineer from Dai Yoshihara's (sp?) FormulaD team running an LS7 (if I recall correctly). What is he doing there? .

Why not the only difference is the water pump.

No..

All new Oil Pump, Water Pump, Timing Cover, all 3 Irons, (also no oil by-pass valve in rear housing-oil pan), Rotor Housings have extra nozzles, Lower 'e' pulley set.
Oil Cooler Pipes install is totally different (2 stud/nut attachment bracket on each of the 2 hoses with o ring seal), different Oil Pan...to name a few

I was talking about for this particular setup in a car that only sees track time. ie none of the above matters but the water pump and possibly oil pump.

Also they are using REW housings on this build, which is pretty much the only interesting thing about the engine.

Guy in the background of that picture is Mike Kojima, Dai's engineer in Formula D, also owner of MotoIQ.com, who did the article.

how much would something like this cost or is this just a one-off thing? or will it be the new trend among rx8 owners?

It would really depend on if you wanted to go NA or Turbo.

I'm guessing it would be the cost of a rebuild plus two housings off an REW and a custom exhaust manifold.

Its a good option, but the cost/benefit wouldn't be worth it unless it was a dedicated track car.

Nah This hybrid would be better... It pretty much has the best of both worlds.

I would rather see them P port S2 housings for the 3 oil injector lines. That would be a solid DD/Track engine.

wouldn't pass smog for **** but it would be a winner.
