IIRC 13BREW compression ration is 9:1 and the MSP is 10:1

I doubt that would make a huge difference in a boosted application of this sort of build

The Mazdatrix engine is using RX8 rotors that are EDM cut for the taller 2mm 86-95 apex seals.

I believe there also running iannetti ceramic apex seals ( Mazdaspeed )

so I think they are using the 83-85 13b rotor housings, as they have the coolant seal grooves in them, where as the later housings dont have the groves instead moved to the side irons.

A friend of mine spoke with racing beat who thinks those ports are too large...

I've been toying with the idea of doing a 1.5" ID port sleeved on the renny housings.

Then running the taller RX-7 seals using, RA's water/combustion o-rings, port matching and smoothing all water passages, opening up the intake ports even more.

No but the fact that we have heard absolutely nothing from mazdatrix about this kind of points to that fact.

nope, but like you say, the GSL-SE housing has the water seals in the right place, so its the only bolt in solution.

plus its a different casting, from the REW rotor housings, so it looks a little different

Bump. Calling Mazdatrix, did this work out, or fail miserably?

I saw kyle mohans car at mazfest back in august 900 hp and super loud running well in 100+degree weather they were tuning it and getting the bugs out but I don't think it was the hybrid motor. IIRC the import showdown from super street last year had the hybrid rx8 from mazdatrix although s2000's took the top seat.

anyone remember this or seen that issue?

Would be nice to get an update.

The ideal situation would be the RX8 intake setup with the peripheral exhaust only. The problem is there's no easy way to seal off the side exhaust ports. If you cap the face outlet off at the manifold they become EGR reservoirs. You can't weld them closed at the rotor face side. Best case maybe they can be sealed off on the rotor face and cast filled with a suitable molten metal, but there's a chance the housing will warp or that expansion property differences might result in them coming loose, cracking, chipping off, etc. Otherwise you could also machine an insert to replace the OE inconel inserts to minimize the volume as much as possible.

The ideal solution would be the Racing Beat aluminum housings with RX8 intake ports only. That would make a lot of sense for any fuel injected rotary engine short of going to a peripheral intake setup, which is only good for a narrow, high rpm powerband

.

i think FEED has side port block offs, but yeah the alloy housings would be a better choice.

my P port is in a much lighter car than the 8, so its not really an apples/apples thing, but the P port has TONS of power as low as 2000rpm, and they do get a bad rap on the drivability front, its actually pretty tame if you tune the carb, and efi should be even better

kyle has an LS motor swap in one of his cars now. Not sure which one he was driving that day.

When mazdatrix throws in the towel you know its time to go over to the piston world.

Kyle Mohan Racing has rolled out its latest creation from its Signal Hill, California work shop – an LS1-powered Mazda RX-8 which will be used in the World Drift Series in China.

Mohan has competed in the World Drift Series over the past four seasons in a rotary-powered Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. However, the limitations of the available gasoline in China have led Mohan to put an LS1 engine into the new Mazda RX-8 he has built for the series. Mohan’s World Drift Series program is run in parallel with his Formula Drift program, in which he drives the Nexen/Energy-X/Mazdatrix Mazda RX-8.

We are seeing lots of v8 powered drift cars in nz now. People are starting to ditch RB's (hugely popular) for LSx's
