Lexus SC430

I love this car, and I don't know why. If I was ever going to buy a luxury car, the Lexus SC430 would be in my garage. It's absolutely gorgeous in white, and there is decent aftermarket support, well at least outside the U.S. (think JDM :D). My dream was to buy an SC430, toss the V8 into the garbage can, and replace it with a twin-turbo version of Toyota's only V12 engine, that I know of, the 1GZ-FE. It's a 5.0 liter motor that puts out 280 PS max, because of the Japanese regulation. I am sure there is way more power than that. I would've been looking into the realm of 550 rwhp, with the engine shoved into the firewall, giving it a 50/50 weight distribution. I would then go from there. Too bad I'm dreaming.

What do you guys think of this car?

This needs to go in this car! :D

I was considering getting it, but in black.

But when you factor in the cost ($60 grand or more), I can buy a lotta sports car for that money.

I think the car would be better suited to the 45-50k range.

Not a fan of the SC. The whole car doesn't look agressive nor does it spell luxury. Front looks ugly and the rear looks like the new Solara. What's up with the hub cap looking 18" rims? For the money, I'd opt for a 911 C4 or SL500, depending on whether you wants sports or luxury.

BTW, I think the light colored wood in Lexus look cheap. Save maple or birch for kitchen cabinets. For cars, cherry wood for me please.

The white paint they use on them is simply amazing.

I think they are pretty slick rides. Certainly before the SL's came out that would have been the luxo convertible of choice for me. I rode in one when they first came out and thought it was pretty nice. Only thing missing is the manual gearbox. . I agree about the light wood colour though, and instead of the white leather, I would want a light grey.

The sc430 is easily one of my favorite cars, but I would seriously like to know what the hell Toyota was thinking when they put those deranged dinner plate rims on them.

If they had a sport model with a better transmission and suspension it would be a much better car. The back seats are useless, just make it a two seater and increase trunk room.

I don't like the SC430--it actually is a very trendy car, which was made evident by its steep drop in sales. As soon as the new SL debuted sales of the SC dropped. According to Motor Trend it had the steepest decline in sales of any car this year. It is priced too high; there were plans to introduce a less expensive SC330 with the V6--but those plans were dropped once the sales fell. Check out the residuals on the 430s--you can get an '04 in the low-mid 40Ks and I've seen '03s for less than that. The interior is first rate--but the design is not well porpotioned in my opinion--but hey--they some say that about the RX8--so to each his own.

I wouldn't see a need for a backseat; the average American person couldn't even fit there! If only Toyota had not opted for the backseat, and had the V12 option (:D), this car would be perfect.

It seems that on Long island, every other car is a sc430. If i had the money to buy it, that car would not even cross my mind. I see a Rx-8 every once and while, but I cant seem to get away from those cars.

The SC-430 is the reason I own my 8.. My boss bought one and I saw it.. and I was like.. what the heck. I want a new car too, so I just went out and bought the 8 the same night.

The SC-430 is very luxurious inside, and VERY quiet with the top down..

I want a black one. I used to have an SC400, and I've driven the SC430. Nothing but sweet. The back seats are too small, otherwise I would have one.

It is as fast as our RX-8 to 60, but doesn't handle nearly as well. The power convertible top is perfect. The wood grows on you, the stereo is great, and the thing oozes luxury with Lexus reliability. I still might consider a preowned one if anything happens to my 8, the kids can scrunch. :D

My wife loves them. We were on I10 one day and there was a red one infront of us. I sped up to see the car up close with my wife and they slowed down to see the 8 at the same time. We were all laughing, giving each other a thumbs up, and pointing out things about the other car that we liked. I like them but it would be a hard decision between that and the Mercedes hard top convertibles. I guess I'll have to drive both when the time comes.
