Lewis Hamilton - Riding on Ferrari's coattails again

Lewis Hamilton is proof that all you need to do is win a few races and come in second to win the championship.

Don't get me wrong, he's a brilliant driver, but it makes me want to puke thinking that with 4 wins out of 17 races he nearly took the '07 title. In 2008 it looks like he'll pull the same garbage. I think that's pathetic to almost have to give the championship to someone who didn't win the most races. His team principal even dipped him in the grease in Turkey saying that the car was capable of pole and he wasn't.

Give it to the driver that wins, not just the driver that finishes the race in 2nd or 3rd. And quit giving his dad so much face time on Speed Channel. There's nothing worse than a gold digging father.

uh? its only 5th race in out of 16. he stil has ways to go. so your kimmi or massa still have a chance to wint he championship. but i do hope hamilton wins this year. but man its only 5th race in lol.
and the same can be said about kimi last year. to me who ever has the points wins, regardless how many times they came in 1st , 2nd or 3rd.

His father is his manager, thats why you see him at all the races. Why not give you father the 10% fee rather than someone else?
Also consistency will always win the championship. You don't have to win a majority of the races.

Winning a title is about consistency Should a team that wins more races than anyone else get the championship if they don't finish the rest??

By your logic if I win 2 races and don't race the rest of the season and every other team wins 1 race all Season then I get to be Champion. That's pretty silly. The points system means that the team that finishes most consistently in the top wins the championship. That's the way it should be. It's not the superbowl yaknow.

I like Hamilton because he was a rookie that came in and Funked sheet up!!!

He made the old timers open their eyes. Too many of the old guys just expect everything to be handed to them now that Schumy is gone.

BTW - Kubica is now the man in my book. This is one of his best years, and he has BMW close to the top of the boards within 1 point of Mercedes.

I'd gripe about Hamilton (he is my most hated driver on the grid right now), but I'm too busy trying to secure a drive for Takuma Sato at the moment...

I don't understand: What is there to "Hate" about Lewis? He's pleasant, talented, well spoken, aggressive on track, good in the dry and wet, young, good looking, celebrates when he wins, takes it in stride when he doesn't win and so far he's a positive role model for the sport.

Seal.

The reason I hate Hamilton is the same reason I hate Sidney Crosby; he's been absolutely shoved down our throats as the next legendary driver of F1 to the point where sometimes it feels like Lewis Hamilton is bigger than F1 itself. Not to mention though Hamilton plays the humble kid card, you can see that in reality he's ruthless and not what he's being marketed as.

Also, the coverage on Anthony Hamilton is absolutely annoying. Do they have to show his face more than most of the drivers and team principals? Every time he's being shown I want to punch my TV. Plus, as a supporter of many minnow teams over the teams, I hate Ron Dennis. Give me Frank Williams any day of the week.

so what did you want to him to say or do? where you hoping he would just like break down crying because he didnt win the championship? So how is he a bitxh? So how is he a bitxh because he feels he would do better then 07?

and this is why i like hamilton alot. he doesnt let losses or mistakes get to him. he just shrugs it off and do better next time. that is why he is a good driver, and probably why alot of ppl like him. when he make mistakes or lose a race, he doesnt go back to the garage and start crying, he goes back and give every one of his mechanics handshakes etc.

and to me the only one who are acting like bitxhes are the ones here complaing about hamilton father being TV due some camera man at speedvision. its not like he is on the whole entire race. you guys are crying over what 10-30sec camera time?

It's the British press that has put Hamilton on a pedestal. He is a Brit, driving for a British team. They have great expectations for a title. You can't hold him fully responsible for the that.

People hate Hamilton because he takes away the spotlight from their favorite driver.

And they show his father rather often like they show ANY other recognizable and/or important figure in the sport.

The broadcast is contracted out by F1. Speedvision has no control over the cameras. In fact, the Speedvision broadcasters, except Windsor, are watching and commenting on the same feed we see.
As far as the focus on Ham's father. They also show Briatore and Braun's latest women and Massa's wife. Those are just a few. You should see what the press are printing about the girls Ham is dating.

I have my biases. Yes they show other figures of the sport as well, but Anthony is shown almost without fail in every race; it's like the contract stipulated they show Anthony. You don't see any other dad having anything near that coverage.

Yes the British press has put him on a pedestal and yes Lewis is not fully responsible for it, but considering we speak English and most of America thinks F1 might be some sort of hair care product, the press that we get of F1 comes out of Britain where Anthony has become deified. Add this with my extreme dislike of Ron Dennis ever since his comments about how F1 doesn't need minnow teams and my dislike of general annoyance at England (I'm an Arsenal FC fan, it's a long story...) and Lewis' background isn't in his favor in my eyes.

good post. like anielsen and you, you guys must see alot in europe where we in the US do not see this type of coverage. so i can see why you guys would be annoyed.

also i find it funny that TC hasnt respond to my post of Kimi finishes last session for each race.

If its any consolation to Showoff, at least in the event of a tie in points, the decide the championship based on race wins. And if i'm not mistaken....(don't kill me if i am) if the race win count is tied, they go to the most pols, then fastest laps.

Not what I'm saying. I think the wins should have far more weight in the points.

The point system was just changed a year or two ago to weigh a win higher.

It was changed starting in 2005 so that a win had less value over second place. Previously the points were 10-6-4-3-2-1, but it was changed to 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. The gap from 1st to 2nd was narrowed from 4 points to 2 points.
