Just saw the new 370Z

I just saw a article on the new 370Z I think it was in R&T. Better looking then the old car but the Head lights and tail light look like **** same bad arrow design as the Maxima. It is still using the over sized plastic door handles (fugly). What I still find amazing is the car is still close to 3,200 lbs, they were saying that the car would be lighter so I was expecting maybe 3,000 lbs like the RX. Either Mazda can really engineer a car to get a 4 seater to 3000 lbs or Nissan can't engineer jack making a brand new 2 seater at 3,200 lbs. I look forward to reading the whole article.

The platform the Z is built off of, from what I remember, is a modified version of what underpins several of Nissan's/Infinity's RWD vehicles which was used to save cost back when the original 350Z was designed but is heavy. I'm sure the new 370Z is still based on this (though highly modified) which is where the weight comes from in such a small car. Plus that 3.7L out weighs the tiny rotary engine by no telling how much. It's still crazy that a car that small weighs that much. Something with those dimensions and interior volume should not weigh more than 3000lbs but there is only so much they can do w/o developing a completely new structure which would cost big money. Mazda on the other hand is excellent at engineering light weight at low cost and we should see even lighter cars coming from them after the reports of an even more extreme focus on weight reduction on all of their future redesigned cars. Image what a new Mazda 2-seat sports car bigger than a Miata but smaller than an RX-8 would weigh. 2700 lbs would be nice.

the 200 pounds isnt gonna matter all that much. so much hp and tq it makes the 8 look like a scooter.

The 370 weighs in at over 3300lbs. Only about 90lbs less than the out going model.

i like the extierior except for the rear is gross, but the performance numbers are crazy. Its not only straight line fast but it can pull .97Gs. That may be enough to make me a fan

I think I like the 370 a bit more than the 350, only now it looks quite a bit like the porsche 911 as far as general body shape goes, and I'm talking about the older and uglier 911s. It just doesn't look poised or like it's going somewhere, it also looks too fat too, they've managed to overdo the flared wheel arches this time.

last time i checked rx8s weigh close to 3200lbs unless you get the bare bones base model in automatic. The new Z looks amazing and at that weight with that much power and apparently handling to boot, could be a bit of an evo killer here. I'm definitely excited about this Z (i wasnt about the 350)

i'd have an open mind or else you'd be doubly disappointed if you faced off at the track against one. RX8 fanboiism is something i never got even when i had my 8. I know the limitations of my car and i have an idea of the potential of other cars...i know when theres a better one out there in a category, im not afraid to say it. lol
