Jim Mederer, co-founder of Racing Beat, has died

I learned today that Jim Mederer has died on Dec 27. Jim was co-founder of Racing Beat A History of Racing absolute pioneers in rotary engine technology and development. He owned several land speed records at Bonneville with RX-7s, one after coming back from a spectacular crash the year before which had him flying through the air and landing on the roof. He developed the tune on my current car and was responsible for building and tuning the alcohol fueled 3rotor in the amazing Mazda Furai https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Furai which met It's untimely end at the hands of Top Gear http://www.topgear.com/…/exclusive-h...urned-d… The car enthusiast world just lost a giant. Thanks Jim

Jim in the red hat helping the Furai out of the garage for it's debut

Sad to hear this...my sincerest condolences to his family. Thank you Jim for all you did pushing the aftermarket development of this engine design, the various platforms it powered and the Mazda brand in general. You were an inspiration and you will be missed. Scott

It's been difficult to keep his battle under wraps but it was what Jim wanted so we honored his wishes.
We were privileged to see him one last time at SevenStock and to present him with this banner.

thank you to all who signed it.

Godspeed Jim, until we see you again.

A great guy and rotary pioneer. I had the great privilege of meeting him first when my buddy Steve Stander, owner of the first Autotrix, and I helped assist on the second of their early Bonneville record RX7 projects, and later when Jim and Takayuki advised me as Racing Beat built my track car's turbocharged ported engine , cooling system, fuel system, brakes , ignition ,powertrain ,suspension and exhaust. I just had ordered some new cooling system hoses from Racing Beat for my RX8's new radiator install when I heard the sad news.

Jim and Racing Beat pushed the development envelope for rotary engines and cars, and helped make them much more than they would have been without Jim and Racing Beat's vision and leadership. I was happy to have shared some winning race days at tracks across America, especially Daytona.

I am glad to be old enough to have known him from the early days of Racing Beat ,and always to have been inspired by Jim throughout my own 44+ year rotary history.

Jim you will be sorely missed !! Carry on the torch, Takayuki !!
