Impressions of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. The new coupe was at the Orlando International Auto show, unfortunately I will have to put up the pics tomorrow that I took.

First it wasn't a crowd pleaser at all. People took a glance at it and kept on walking past it for good reason. In real life , the car looks cheap . It actually looks better in print then it does in person, thats a first.......

The front air dam to the grill, to the rear difuser piece is made out of the cheapest plastic known to man, it made the plastic in the Ford Mustang look luxurious. The paint had very noticable orange peal sections noticable in places such as the hood, the 1/4 panel, rear hatch, etc. The interior looked ok, materials were a little bit better , but still cheap feeling none the less. The seats were comfortable , almost as nice as the 8 or comparable cars in its price range.

The overall look doesn't sit well with me, some may disagree, but when you see it for yourself, you will understand what I mean. You can see where it ripped off styling cues from many diffrent sports cars, its way more noticable with the 4 door Genesis.

It was funny, one guy was shaking his head naming the cars the 4 door Genesis ripped off, saying, Lexus LS400 front, Mercedes grill, G35 rear 1/4 section , BMW 7 series lights. Sad to say in the flesh, the car doesn't hide the blatant carbon copy look of other vehicles well. The interior was really nice, but after two seconds you realize your still in a Hyundai. And the interior quality showed with the fit and finish of the Genesis. Hyundai used great leather in there cars, yet skimped out on dash materials. Its like they were giving and taking with there material choices, they give the consumer a little bit of luxury but not to much luxury , then will throw our cheap details in there to save cost.

Sit in one and you will see what i mean with the wish -washy feeling of materials and the fit and finish of the cabin.

44k for the sedan? I think not..... 33k for a fully loaded coupe with 300HP.... maybe .....but the look of the car bothers me to no end, and that cheap plastic makes me want to vomit everytime I lay eyes on it.

Not related , but the new Z was there, I like it...I don't like this color, although the new Z looks great in person! It reminds me of a updated 280Z made modern.

That all sounds about what I would expect. I'm still curious how the Genesis coupe will stack up w/ other comparable cars when driven 10/10ths around a track or something. I don't predict it being very well tuned car in the handling department.

It surprised people that Hyundai would continue their tradition of blatantly copying other carmakers when it came to styling for a new car?
I mean c'mon, their sedan doesn't even have the Hyundai badge on the grille...

Dont call me Racist, but Korean people has a history of copying EVERYTHING then said they were the first one who created it.

Thats probably why I never really like Korean people.

Copying is ok, I mean seriously everybody copy each other once in a while, but dont say you were the creator when you are not.

Oh, btw. ITs still a Hyundai, I would rather get a Civic than any Hyundai.

I know who they are. I only like the last one tho. (my sassy girlfriend baby!)

but to be honest. god knows how many plastic surgery they have on their face? Korean has another tradition - Almost 90% of the girls there had some sort of plastic surgery. Why? cuz naturally they look butt ugly.

9.9% of them probably too poor or simply too ugly to get it fix. the 0.1% might look natrually good.

Hyundai has done a great job over the past 5 years of putting out cars that offer a lot for the money. They're not the best cars in their class, but they're always more affordable. I loved that about my Tiburon. It was far less expensive than any car with comparable performance and was super reliable until I got rid of it at 64k miles.

My worry with this Genesis is that they're getting away from this business model. The pricing puts it right in the Z's bracket, while it's not going to deliver the same quality or value. I realize that Hyundai is trying to remove itself from the "value car" label and be a real competitor to the Japanese brands, but I don't think they're quite there yet.

Wow talk about contradicting yourself, its kind of hard to see how your not racist when you say all that. I think your also overgeneralizing when you say 90% of Korean women having plastic surgery done, usually its just the celebrities that get work done (who doesn't when your in show biz, Hollywood anyone?) not almost the whole country. Seems like someones a little xenophobic, I happen to be Korean does that mean you hate me too.....

That's why he's driving a Japanese car.

No but seriously, the cultures are different and the visibility is different. Japanese don't flock together; they're non-existent or invisible on a college campus, for example. Koreans are very very tight-knit and have more of a machismo thing and are quite visible and loud on a college campus. Chinese take affront to that.
