If They Build It, Will They Be Able To Meet Demand, Even Over the Long Run?
Few cars have the long term "must have" sellability.
If they build this Dodge Challenger that is being showcased at the Detroit Auto Show, I would bet on an absolute sales tear - at an unprecedented rate:
Few cars can only be rightfully described as "bad ***." This is one of them.
Every celeb, singer, athlete and entreupreneur will buy one, eating up the initial production run, and soon everyone else with enough cash will follow.
They thought it was something when 'Fifty Cent' demanded a new Dodge Charger.
i don't like how designers have run out of ideas, and have to turn to ripping off old design cues to make a buck. ford did it with the mustang, and there's already rumblings that the camaro is coming that is taking the looks of the classic 60's frame.
god forbid american car designers used their brains to design an original car.
i don't know, it looks 'too old school' to me, almost like they didn't bother AT ALL to come up with new ideas.... modern-retro is ok, retro-retro (a la Ford Thunderbird) is big no-no

I believe the saying is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
That goes perfectly here...those cars did very well in their prime, and these companies are at a need for muscle cars since the mustang is the only one in the market right now. so why not bring back a classic which everyone liked, and modernize it, but give it the looks of the generation where it did so well...i think its brilliant. its a way for today's generation to have a peice of history that isnt that...a peice of history, where you have to put way too much money in to keep it running.
at least the camaro has fresher, more modern lines when compared to the challenger. and the FJ has only some of the elements from the original, ala the headlamps and vertical windshield, the rest is very different. imo, the challenger looks like *** and that interior isn't helping any. i doubt all the "old timers" will enjoy that instrument cluster, as you can barely make out the speed and rpm numbers with an enlarged photo. oh well, to each their own...
I like it while I'm not much a retro fan myself, but I think this kills the new Mustang in the "looks" department.
My question is this...how much$$$$$$????
Honestly, of course...for me I don't care much about this car if it's going to go for 35K.
What happened to 20-25K muscle cars...but I guess everything cost more now a days anyway.
What would I suggest? Use the smaller Hemi to keep cost down and price it in the 25-30K range and not the higher end 30-35K range. Oh yeah...please, if your sticking back seats in it...make them usable or save the space and weight.
If you could get it for 25K with 350HP and they made the back seats worth it (for me, my taste...turn off the flame throwers) after my 8's days are over I would not mind one of these, while I rather have the next Camaro since I like Chevy better.
Oh yeah, one more thing...with all our new technology...please don't make it as fat as the GTO and Mustang, the goal should be no more than 3400 pounds...with 3300 the most I would personally allow.
LOL...I'm always talking (in the future car threads) like if their company people come and read this stuff...lol.

The instrument cluster and interior will be different than that rendering in production trim I bet.

simple...the cars back then were slower (ignoring change in dollar value) and had a lot less...these have a lot more in them, and are a lot more powerful
To me this design looks kinda plain...but then I thought the original was plain looking too. Kinda funny though how all the American car companies seem to be falling back on 35-40 year old designs. Maybe it's because that was the last time we were designing cars that looked like American cars instead of Japanese/German wannabe's.
I hate that new Camaro design if in fact that's what they go with. The extreme slash/angles/anime style is Japanese; let them use that, it's theirs. American car designers need to start getting creative with genuine American styles.
I don't really like this Challenger design at all, it seems way too retro. It looks like the simply too the old car and slap in a new interior and call it a new car, they didn't put in much effort into updating that car. The Camaro on the other hand looks good and refreshed, it looks like an evolved version of the old model, I like it.
But you know, I wish GM didn't bring the GTO name back with the Monaro because it didn't really fit. They should've simply called it the Pontiac Monaro as with all other locations. They didn't really capitalize enough on the name anyways to justify in using it.
Transam...yeah I know, but it's getting to the point where Mr. Common Joe can't enjoy these type of cars without a 6 year loan and a big down payment.
Maybe a new job would help also...lol
NomisR, I'm with ya...while I "like" the GTO it should have gotten it's name. Let's see what happens with the next one.
AND...for the record, remember my long dead Camaro thread...well, there were ALOT better concepts there while I know some of them might be drawings from loyal fans.
huh? i thought you didn't care for that engine.......
