You have two options

1) The More Plausible way is to fork over a LOT of your own money first (Look at about 15k+ to even think about trying), to get other companies to notice that you are serious. Keep at it, going to a lot of shows, try to win awards.. and companies may start sponsoring you.

2) You have to know someone in the industry... like a Tuner shop owner, Parts people, etc etc... don't know anyone, then go back to step 1.

Also remember that it's not all about "Hey I get free stuff, cool." It's not that simple... that's only for the upper eschelon of import owners... most of the time you'll be paying for the cost of the product, AND you MUST go to "X" number of events a year to get that deal. So most of the time you may not have your car to drive with.

Not that I've ever been sponsored, but my understanding is it's a chicken-and-egg situation. Once you get recognition then sponsors may be willing to give you stuff. Recognition may come from winning awards at shows, magazine writeups or schmoozing with industry people.

If you are first starting out, chances are you have to buy your own gear now in order to get the possibility of sponsorship for the next project.

What Outlaw said & also being able to write up a really nice proposal to whomever you want the sponsorship from.Writing a good proposal is critical if you don't know people from the industry.

Its very hard to get sponserd ... I had a sponserd civic . and they gave me things but they also told me car shows i had to goto not just local but world wide . How i started i first went to shows then i got a photo shot out of import tuner . then i made a log of every little thing i had done to the car . took photos everything . made it very presentable . then sent it to companies i liked and didnt like to see what happend got picked up from some . i ahd a deal with momo where they sent out there new products i got it installed in the car sent them photos and they told me what shows to goto .... it is honestly a pain in the *** and if you car is a everyday driver i do not recomend it at all ..... I had over 25K in my civic befor sponsership

I think this is still a misconception. I've seen tons of wannabe fixed up cars in the LA area... mainly the dinky civics with the cheesy stickers all around the car.

For instance, I was driving with my g/f and this 95 Civic LX was next to my 8. She thought that it was heavily sponsored, but here's the catch... He had about 30+ stickers lined up, as if he was sponsored. Had Greddy, HKS, Mobil gas, etc etc.. Then as you look at the car, he had stock exhaust, plastic hubs, a "black" painted hood that was suppose to be carbon fiber I guess... and the front bumper was fiberglass unpreped/non-painted. I really doubt HKS or any of the other companies would waste their time on this car... would make the company look bad.

So in conclusion, Just because you have "some" parts on your car, and stick a bunch of stickers on the car... if you haven't talked to the companies saying..."Hey I am using your product, here's a proposal of what I'd like to offer..." then it means very little. Also actually put the product that you have stickers for in the car... don't just put it for the "cool" factor.
