Don't know whether or not it was the driver, but the new WRX STi cleaned house!

undoubtedly tsuchiya is a great driver. I'd still have to buy the evo given the choice. was a rather close race and I prefer the look of the evo.

i'm surprised that Ide didn't do any better. after all, he did race with Super Aguri in F1 which would lead me to believe that he's a good driver. tsuchiya does know tsukuba better than just about anyone.

i'd take the STi over the evo any day of the week. do anything you want to it, when it all boils down it's still a piece of mitsubishi trash.

This is a re-post. However, I just checked the old link in post #305 and found that the video was removed. Anyway, more discussion can be found here.

This is how I see it. Do you want a hatchback or a sedan? The cars are too close, and it's extreme subjective if you wanna say which car is better, because IMO neither is better.

Unfortunately it's all irrelevant. The USDM equivalents of these cars have different engine choices, curb weights, suspension, etc. We need something like this done on the US spec cars.

yes, for example for all the USDM cars come with fat and ugly seats, and in japan or euro, most of the sports car comes with their sexy recaros. when it comes to us, its all different

I stand on my belief that Best Motoring is scripted. Tsuchiya always wins irregardless what he drives. And if there's an Euro-car there, it always loses.

I know you may be half joking, but it brings up a sad point. The fact that most people, on this forum included, look at Top Gear as the pinnacle of automotive excellence is depressing. I love the show and find it quite entertaining, but the findings are so shrouded in bias. Different drivers, on different days, in different weather conditions.

Too many people here are lemmings of Jeremy Clarkson. Anyone who uses an episode of Top Gear as the sole reason as to why one car is better than another is a moron.

You are absolutely right. However, that means this site and most others are made up of about 85-90% morons. Sad but true. Too many people don't now how to think for themselves., so they use someone's subjective opinions as facts. THINK FOR YOURSELVES PEOPLE!!!!!!

I kind of agree with most of what you said, and some facts like resale value I'm not so sure about.

But you just said EJ motor is far superior than 4G63 that has been around for decades and proven to make gobs of power?

You are seriously misinformed then.

I had a WRX before and played around with a few different EJ motors because it's just NOT strong enough for extreme high boost... from wut I know what wut I heard the 4G63 has a stronger fundation and more potential...

A very close friend of mine is the Sales Manager of a local Mitsu store and I was really tempted to order the first EVO X in Canada untill he told me that the top model ONLY comes with auto/ seq trans, and the "MR" model only comes with 5 Speed not 6...

Maybe it's the trend right now, even the R35 GT-R only comes with a 7-Speed SEQ. trans... maybe it's just me but I'd rather have man. trans for me to have fun driving the car...

I'm so jealous of those fully four door, econoboxes with AWD racing!

GO RACING CAMRY! GO RACING CAMRY!

Taking the shittiest car in the line, and turning it into a "race" car is stupid...

One thing about that article that doesn't make a lot of sense. They claim that in S-Sport mode it does in fact feature a "launch mode":

When in S-Sport, launch mode can be used. Stability control must be disabled, the brake depressed and 5200 rpm selected with the throttle.

Yet, they say that the GSR is faster to 60. So, somehow they pick up 0.9 seconds over the GSR with the MR during the lap due to the very quick shifting of the SST, yet on a 0-60 run they dump the clutch at a similar rpm and the GSR edges it out. I know the MR is a 6-speed and perhaps needs two shifts to get to 60 as opposed to the GSR 5-speed, but it's a little odd to me that the SST doesn't offer an advantage to 60 if it does in fact have launch control.

Another oddity from the article is that claimed priced of $37k for the MR when the original numbers were announced at $39k with the possibility of shedding $1k by the time production actually got underway.

I'm glad to see a review of the US-spec car, but I'll be interested to some other magazines do a similar test to see what they find as some of this is a tad hard to believe.

edit: I just realized that the MR will undoubtedly be heavier which could partially explain the aforementioned disperity in 0-60 times. However, the fact that they don't mention the MR's time specifically (they just say "low 5s") still seems weird to me. I'm wondering if maybe they have a pre-production model that didn't include launch control. Or perhaps Mitsubishi just asked them not to launch it.

Just because it blows the doors of your car doesn't mean it's a race car. Insecure much?
