Thumbs up Eratic Idle Solution for aftermarket Intake

The past two weeks I have been upgrading my car in the most basic ways. Intake, Exhaust, susupension and strut bars.

When removing the exhaust and intake, I ran into an eratic idle and even total shut downs at a light!! The shut down would come once in while and even after the car has been driven for a while. I was so excited about my upgrades with my 8 that I became disappoinent with my products because i thought they were faulty. Not to mention all the wrench time I had to put in. For all you who don't know, I went with SR (intake and exhaust).

After numerous calls to SR, spoke to Greg, the final conclusion was that I had air leaks. Not the case. I did a ton of research and read on these forums that owners were taking there 8's to the dealership for spark plug replacements, MAF sensor replacements and throttle replacements. I heard this and I was pissed. I came across a member(mikefrombarrie)from the forum and he gave me a great solution. Here is what really works and you can probarly find it in your garage.

If you kept your old intake, you are golden. The stock intake box has two small circular mesh screens that are installed. One of those screens you can't pop out, the other one you can (screen closest to air duct). If you install this screen, before the MAF Sensor, your problem will be fixed. WHY? Mazda placed those mesh screens there to cancel out the turbulant air that comes into the air box. Without this, gusts of uncontrollable air travels into your intake and cause fluttering and stalls.

After installing this, I saw instant results. I recommend everyone to try it if you are having idle issues after installing an aftermarket intake. It might be as simple as a mesh screen.

Thanks!

The mesh screens are very important, which is why the RB intake keeps them. The distance from the mesh to the MAF is also important.

ITALNRX-8, the other day when I was giving you ideas on ways to fix your problem it totally slipped my mind about these mesh screens. Congrats on getting it fixed.

I thought you said you replaced the intake with the factory and was still having issues?

I think this is a repost since it has been discussed a lot in the aftermarket forum, but thats ok.

K&N Version 1 Typhoon intakes were also having similar problems and K&N Version 2 doesn't. There are big differences between the 2 intakes, but K&N learned and realized they at least needed to put the MAF Screen in.

The Simota Intake was having a lot bigger problems then just idle and we were also thinking that adding the MAF Screens may be the solution.
