Electric Mazda's coming in 2019

Mazda CEO Says Electric Cars Coming in 2019 - WSJ
TOKYO—The chief executive of Mazda Motor Corp. said the company plans to start selling electric vehicles in 2019, joining rivals at home that face tightening emission standards abroad.

“We’ve set the goal at 2019 to accommodate the ZEV regulations in North America,” Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai said in a group interview, referring to rules in California and some other states that mandate rising sales of zero-emission vehicles.
sounds like another step on the road to an anniversary rotary to me

Meh, electric cars don't do it for me personally, they are not the clean and green image they portray, plus they are heavier as a load capacity.
A bit like so called driver-less cars, driving is part of the fun in transportation, for me, being 'controlled' is not exactly free spirited...never in my life time.

I wonder if the new "Boss of USA" will direct EPA to curtail some of their lofty emission targets, at the very least align the US with EU?.
Japan has now aligned their emissions with EU, as has Australia from next year, so the majority of the world and cars will have EU standards with the US having their 2 (California).

Personally I am all for a 1 (one) world global standard, to me a no brainer, manufacturing costs become standardised in relation to emissions, far easier from a diagnostic and servicing standards, and cheaper new car production costs.

Aren't EU emissions much stricter than US? I agree with the single standard, but the new boss isn't exactly the environmental type...
