Cruised with an 07 Mustang GT...

...and boy, Fords are pieces of crap!

Now, before any Ford lovers get in a rustle, know that my Uncle works for Ford. He has for 17 years, and we've made good use of the discounts he gets us. We've had a few hits, a few misses, and I've got no personal beef with the company - what I'm about to type is about as fair of an observation as one can get.

MY PERSONAL REVIEW OF THE 07 MUSTANG GT:

My brother got a Cobra back in '96, and that car was a god in my eyes. Bone stock, that car hauled *** in my eyes. It had a loud, fierce exhaust, it pulled hard as hell in every gear, and rode like a nice sports car - let you felt every bump, you could get some nice pull in the turns, and never felt unsteady in the high speeds.

Well, when Ford released the new Mustang body style, I got a chance to test drive one of the V6 models. For a base model, the thing hauled WAY more *** than I expected, and rode infinately smoother than I would ever expect from a sports car. The salesman was a cool, younger guy, and even let me pull of some drifts, handbrake turns, and doughnuts in an empty parking lot. The car was powerful, fast, smooth, and in all honesty, a LOT of fun!

Well, a few nights ago, I come up to a redlight where a new GT stang and an SRT4 are reving away ...............a review would not include stop light street drags......S...................................... ............
edit:
Sorry - I didn't think talking about a race between 2 other fell under the same parameters as a story about being in a street race yourself.

They come up to the next red light and go at it once more. I hadn't come to a stop yet when the light went green, ..............................more street racing removed............................
edit:
Sorry again.

Long story short: The GT didn't disapear onto the horizon with the quickness I was expecting.

Well, the SRT makes a turn, and next thing I know I'm next to the GT at a redlight. He rolls down his window and smiles and I reply with a scoff and say "oh please - pick on someone your own size!" He laughs and we have a quick and friendly chat. We play around for a bit after the light goes green - no real racing, again - just some friendly comparisons of power between 20-55 mph. We pull over into a parking lot and chit-chat for a while.

I ended up giving a ride in my car and he was full-blown shocked. He said it felt faster than he expected, and turned like nothing he had ever felt before in his life (I have the MS suspension installed). He then went on to tell me how much he admired my engine growl (?????) and intimidating body style. By the end of the test drive, he admitted that he was somewhat regretful of his purchase.

Remembering the fun I had with the V6 when they first came out, I asked for a ride in his car. I figured the GT had to be infinately more fun and fast (and loud) than the base model I drove, and that the guy wasn't giving his car enough credit. He turns off the TSC and does a few nice manuvers in the parking lot. He's no drift king, but he's showing good control of the backend dispite the relatively high speeds he was traveling as we weaved our way out of the parking lot.

(BTW - this story takes place between the hours of 2 & 4 AM in the middle of nowhere, so don't get the impression that he was being reckless around other people.)

So, we get on the road, and he seems to be giving it full throttle, and the car pulls nicely, but he seems to be shifting well before the redline. I ask him why he's doing this, and he disappointingly admits that he *IS* shifting at the redline!

WTF?!?!

The GT offers little more than the V6! Yeah, it pulls hard, but not like I would expect. The engine also remains so subtle and so quiet that it sounds like you're driving economically, even when you're trying to set personal bests in your 15-60mph times! The fake hood scoop takes up WAY more of the driver's visibility than it should, and the car rocks back and forth like it's a damn truck! A lane change on the highway at 75mph feels like an 18 wheeler trying to take a U-turn!

My final words are 3 simple letters: WTF.
What the hell kind of car is this? Why does it feel so "luxurious" and "soft" in the suspension? Why is the engine so muffled and timid? Why is the power delivery so dulled down?
Have Americans really come to this? Have members of the same generation that founded street racing really turned into such pussies? Have the same teenagers that once removed their cats, bumpers, seatbelts, and mirrors from their daily driver muscle cars, just for a few secodns in the quarter mile, really become such wimps that they amassed enough numbers and complaints to convince Ford to turn what was once a symbol for raw power and street muscle into a car that prioritizes comfort and drivability over all else??
The GT should be a beast of beasts. The engine should shatter the teeth of those unfortunate to be standing behind it. The idle should be rough enough to make a passenger nauseous. The engine drone should be louder than the stock stereo. The Pony should have some freaking manliness to it! A 1.3L Japanese "sport meets versitility" should not be able to "keep up" - by any stretch of the definition - with a monstrous V8 blessed with the only name in the muscle car lineup to survive the demands of every generation from it's founding until modern day.

You fail, Ford. Please try again.

^^And now you know why Ford has lost so much money over the last few years!

It is sad, because I was a Ford guy back in the 90's. '94 Cobra with aluminum heads, full lengths, gears, shifter, etc....Like you said, those cars had soul and guts. The newer ones are like "casper milquetoast" versions of those Mustangs of the past.

7 to 10 lengths IS NOT keeping up.

Actually, in my group of friends the most notable cars are a 330, a boxster, a 300c, G35 coupe and sedan, two 350z's and a '06 Mustang GT. The only car I can't "keep up" with in a straight line is the Mustang GT.

They're pretty decent cars if you ask me.

well to start off i too dislike the mustang gts'. but you are exagerrating very badly at how you "kept up" with your rx-8. all your other points are valid, but you have to give credit where it's due especially straight line.

-the mustang gt runs low to mid 13 seconds.
-the rx-8 runs mid to high 14's.
-they make more power to the wheel than the rx-8 does to the crank BY FAR. 260whp to 230hp (even with the inflated number by mazda)
-not to mention the massive torque is has compared to the torqueless rx-8

which means that it will put bus, trains, and airplane lengths on an rx-8. if you aren't impressed by that speed, then i have no idea what will impress you. the newer mustang gt's are in the evo/sti league. they are all one FULL second faster than the rx-8 in every aspect of straight line no matter what, period.

how can you not be impressed by that? hell in another rx-8 member's post he admitted a near stock rsx type-s pulled on him, and the mustang gt's will blow the doors off my car when i am even more modded than the one that pulled on that member. in fact, the v6 version of the mustang will even slightly pull on an rx-8 also. so you should really get off your high horse and give credit where it's due.

Actually some of the complaints can be cured with some factory packages such as the suspension and performance package. I rented a Shelby GTH last year which had both of these packages and the ride was anything but soft. It handled very well but the ride was horrible. It also had a nice sound to it and although Shelby made a few adjustments to the exhaust, I have heard stock GTs and they sound decent.

It is also the only stock GT mustang automatic I have been in that was not a complete dog. It is now a credible 13 second car auto or stick and is by far better than the car it replaces.

Although it was fun driving the GTH around for 3 days, I still was looking forward to getting back in my car. The handling is better without sacrificing ride, the RX8 looks better in my opinion, and the interior is far better than the Mustang's. The Mustang reminded me of a fun weekend car whereas the RX8 is just a better overall daily driver.

GTFO. I lined up across from a Mustang GT at the dragstrip on a friday night about a year ago. He didn't have me by much. Believe or not, while you're sitting around bench racing with your stories you "heard somewhere," some of us are actually racing and not just talking out of our ***.

The V6 will not pull on an 8 unless it's down one rotor. Check your figures. And cars don't work under the transitive property. Just because the same model of car you had beat another doesn't give any sort of concrete evidence. You're no authority on what exact mods that RSX was running, how good the driver was, how good the launch was (or if it was from a roll, and if so, what speed) and all of the numerous other factors that decide a race. So pack up the bullshit, Honda boy, no one is impressed by you, your front-wheel drive shopping cart, or anything you think you know.

yes, it's quite good at going straight... dont think anyone argued that. The only thing he said specifically was that he was unimpressed at the difference between GT and V6. I wouldnt say it's in the same league as evo/sti. I think the evo/sti are a bit faster, and they handle much better as well. I would take an evo or sti any day over the GT mustang.

A while back I witnessed a person fly through their windshield, splatter onto the the back of a moving truck, and then bounce into oncoming traffic where 2 cars ran over the messed up and mangled body. Why do I tell you this? Because I was behind the idiot that was street racing when she rear ended that moving van and ended her life.

**** STREET RACING.
I felt that way even before I witnessed that incident, it's just that now I have a permenant mental image to associate with it.
I DON'T STREET RACE.

The 7 or 10 carlengths was distance intentionally kept. If one of those idiots were to crash, I want to be far enough away to not be a part of it, and to not get a front-row seat to another horrific spectacle. All I was saying was that the GT didn't impress me with out fast it pulled away. It still pulled away, but I couldn't help but feel that if I were the type, the GT wouldn't pull away from me with the quickness I expected.

In fact, when we did our 20mph to 55mph runs, the GT failed to even line up it's rear bumper with my front. No - it wasn't slow; No - I wasn't really giving it real challenge, but compared to what I experienced in my brother's old Cobra, I would have expected the GT to blow my damn doors off!

I'll agree - they're pretty decent cars. I just expected more, and in different departments. The GT, IMO, shouldn't be "pretty decent" in any category. It should be "damn" everything. Damn fast, damn loud, and damn uncomfortable. The GT's were once a name that meant solid muscle; 4 wheels, one marginally confortable seat, 3 simple pedals, and a shitton of power. Instead, it's a pretty decent car.

That's fail.

The base model can be "a pretty decent car" - the GT should be a "damn fast muscle car." Just my opinon.

oh ya, and for that stupid comment about how he may not know what the rsx-s had. well here is the thread where i ask him and he confirms it, since it is his own friend you dumbass. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/photoshoot-some-buddies-125028/

again i state THE EXACT MODS on the rsx-s that pulled on a rx-8 was just a cold air intake. is that clear enough for you?
