Bumper repair / plastic welding

Bumper repair / plastic welding
This doesn't apply to my car (thank goodness), but, my daughter backed into something w/ hers and managed to punch a fist-sized hole in her bumper. A new bumper is $700-$800, but one shop claims that they can "weld" the plastic and make a repair for around $400.
Does anyone have any experience w/ this?
Does it make a satisfactory repair?
Thought I'd check here first b/c this is where I found good advice on PDR (which I highly recommend).

it is doable, but it all depends on the shop and how well their work is. it can either look like new or covered crap. my advice would be to get an aftermarket bumper, but hey. lol

If it's an older/popular model car and just external shell damage, maybe try your local junk yard. My girlfriend's 97 Civic needs a rear bumper and I found one in local junk yard for ~$200 (matching color & almost flawless).
