2006 Ford Fusion

I just noticed there was no discussion or pics of the upcoming Fusion posted yet. Power comes from the Mazda6's 2.3L 4 banger or the 3L duratec V6 with 210 hp and a 6 sp. auto. Not very powerful so Im sure a lot of people will be wanting an SVT version SOON.

Is that a production model? They better get rid of those APC tailights.

Is this car supposed to be in between the 500 and the Focus?

They really need to come out with a better top end motor quick. They should at least consider dropping in the hybrid motor from the escape. It makes more power and torque while sipping less fuel.

Oh yeah, the front headlights look like they are from a prelude.

it's not bad, the 'clear' taillights look alright :D

they do need a more powerful motor though, 210 from a 3.0 V6 is a tad weak

but then again the Mazda version of the Duratec V6 only makes 220hp and it does fine, so maybe 210 will be good enough after all :o

It's my impression that the Fusion fills the same niche as the earlier Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique. Bought one of the latter for my mother-in-law several years ago. Not a "driver's car" by any means but a very good, comfortable sedan.

if you don't look at the car head on, from every other angle it looks like something out of a honda production line.

I wonder if it's pure coincidence or some kind of marketing thing that new Fords all begin with 'F' (Five Hundred, Freestyle, Fusion) and new Mercurys begin with 'M' (Montego, Mariner, Milan).

they're going to have to rename Mustang then. Fustang has a nice ring to it.

^... Ford Fustang... nope doesn't work. I don't think they'll change the Explorer either.

I'm with Murix on the Prelude comment, and then crossed with a IS300 for the body.

That's why I said NEW Fords.

Besides, their SUVs have the 'E' names going. I guess since the Freestyle went with an F name they really are wanting people to think of it as a car.

Honda should sue on behalf of the Prelude design team.

You know what's funny? Everytime a new car is shown people jump all over it listing design ques from other cars, everytime! I don't think it's possible to design something that people won't talk **** about anymore.

I dunno... an SVT version of it might be prett nice. This base design is alright. Better than most of the late 90's sedans.

I believe that car is a fordified Mazda6 - I read that somewhere, and the side shots are very similar as are certain interior aspects, ie cupholder location, etc...

Yeah--this is a Mazda 6 in Ford clothing--same as the Mercury version and the Lincoln Zephyr. Ford is the master of brand engineering. I'll pass on this one.

everyone does it, and has been for years. Look at Firebird/camaro, mits. eclips/eagle talon/plymouth laser(while it lasted), dodge stealth/3000GT, Ford/Mercury, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, most GM cars...the list goes on and on
