Umm, ok... so you posted only the few categories where the crossfire was competitive and purposely left out all the others where all of the other cars beat it. Plus it costs ~$10k more than the RX-8.... what's your point?

Actually, the real stand-out there is the Evo. It's the cheapest, (by far, compared to the M3) yet offers the best over-all performance. That stopping distance is especially impressive!
But, as with everything in life, there are trade-offs.

Okay, totally serious question: why would anyone actually buy the Crossfire? It's really not up to par on performance with its competition, and the last time I checked Chrysler doesn't exactly have the prestige of BMW or even Infiniti for that matter. I just don't get what the appeal could possibly be, especially for $35k.

Some people just want something that looks really different than anything else on the road, like the Audi TT - not the best with preformance, but it looks really unique. It all comes down to a matter of what the person's looking for in styling and obviously wants something that will stand out quickly from the rest of the cars on the road. My major gripe with the Crossfire is it's lack of technology features, it has no navi, it has no digital climate control, it has no trip computer or information screen or anything. Those for me were the biggest turn offs with the Crossfire. Also if you look at pics of the Mercedes SLK and then a pic of the interior of the Crossfire, they look almost identical (yes yes I know the majoritory of the parts used to make the Crossfire came strait out of the SLK).
The styling I love but for $35K I feel it should have more features especially technology features. For 35K what I want is a sports car or a unique designed car that offers a lot of zoom with a nice level of luxury and technology. I think either a Audi TT or a Mazda RX-8 are much better choices for someone looking for that type of car in that price range.

I was reading a review on it in one of the car mags (forget which one) and it said that it was 50HP short of being a serious contender. I can't see anyone really wanting it either. It's going up against those roadster like cars like the TT and Boxster, and while the front fascia styling is ok, i cant get over CELINE DION driving it while listening to her song. I can't imagine who brought that up at a marketing meeting thinking that was a good idea, and for the executive to actually green light it.

i must admit that the crossfire was on my short list (along with the TT, and Z) b4 i decided on the 8.

when i saw it in person at the auto show it was quickly axed. it looks great in pics but it seems to skew to an older demographic in person. i haven't hit my "mid-life crisis" yet so it wasn't for me.
and, of course, i agree with the earlier posts...for $35K u can get a REAL luxury sports car with the bells and whistles that u would expect at that price.

The concept car looked much better with the verticaly stacked lights. I liked it too. It looked much younger then. Then they blew it and went for the old fart look.

On the plus side it is that it is built on the SLK platform. The downside is that platform is already 7 years old and MB is already replacing it. That means Chrysler is building a car that is 7 years old.
even if the CrossFire is made in Germany, it is not really 100% Mercedes. maybe about 60/40 Chrysler to MB.
i like the styling actually...although the concept one was more desirable.
i think EVO and CAR did a review on it, and they both said the same things...not a bad car, steering is good, shifter is a little nimb though and with a little more power it would be a contender.

The Crossfire is a Chrysler in name only...it's really a Mercedes SLK with different skin. That's not necessarily anything to knock -- if you're over 40 with too much $$$ to spend, and under 5'10"' tall (believe me, if you're taller you don't want the SLK/Crossfire!)

i just saw a Crossfire on the road today...it had the manufacturer's plates on them. the one i saw was a black one, with it's a-pillar chromed. it looked pretty nice. i pulled along side it at the stop light in my 7. it is smaller than it looked in the pictures...about the size of a TT. now that i saw it in person, i like it even more.
the funny thing was the guy driving it was hunched over; he looked like a big dude, possibly over 6'2".
black is nice on it.
for any of you in Orange County, i saw it on Irvine Center Dr, right by the Irvine Spectrum, which makes sense since the DaimlerChrysler office is right around the corner from the place.
