Is this taking the whole Star Trek thing a teensie weensie bit too far? d'Armond Speers spoke only Klingon to his child for the first three years of its life.

Klingon? Not Spanish, French, Mandarin? Not some gutteral genuflecting concoction from the deepest recesses of Borneo? Klingon? You heard it right. (And if you don't know about the Klingon Empire, look it up.)

"I was interested in the question of whether my son, going through his first language acquisition process, would acquire it like any human language," Speers told the Minnesota Daily. "He was definitely starting to learn it."

And get this, Speers says he isn't really a huge Star Trek fan.

We'll take his word for it.

Does the fact that Speers has a doctorate in computational linguistics explain anything -- or excuse anything -- here? Maybe. His child-rearing habits were part of a larger story on the company he advises, Ultralingua, which develops language and translation software. Including Klingon.

OK. We're playing light here with some serious stuff. Ultralingua sounds like an interesting company. And Speers sounds like a really smart guy. Successful, too. May they live long and prosper. :Eyecrazy::uhh:

How do I go about cleaning underneath the car and removing rust? I bought simple green mixed it 50:50 it doesnt seem to do much. Is it safe to spray the alternator cause it looks dirty i want to clean it. The car is also missing the mud guards from inside the front wheels that you normally take out when changing spark plugs. So there is a big hole and all the rain water and snow and shit goes in there and settles on the engine and made it rust.

Any advice would be great,

Thanks

Hey everyone! I wanted to make an opportunity for those RX-8 owners in SoCal to get some pictures of their cars and maybe make a few more friends and spend some time with some really friendly owners.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a college student who attends the University of Montana but I'm from Orange County and I love photography. I'm still a bit new but I think I'm improving. I love taking HDR pictures and the stunning ways it makes anything look. I'll be visiting SoCal for a week over Thanksgiving starting tomorrow and I was hoping to maybe hold a little photoshoot with all of the local 8 owners to get a chance to hang out and catch up with everyone. I would really appreciate any owners willing to come out. Any pics I take, I'll make available to anyone in full res so if you would like to have it for a print or even just a computer desktop image, just let me know and I'll send them to you via email.

I'd like to hold this little photoshoot THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON! Sorry for such short notice but I've only just finalized my travel plans as well as obligations over this week. Hopefully I'd like to hold it in a place that's convenient for everyone who wants to come. So if you'd like to attend, please let me know where you're coming from so I can try and scout a location in the area on Saturday afternoon. I'd ideally like to hold this in Orange County, maybe in the Irvine / Tustin area as there is usually plenty of places to take photos with a big group but any suggestions are appreciated.

If you have any questions, please let me know! You can pm me on this forum and I'll try and get back to everyone as quickly as possible. If you can attend this event, please let me know!

If you know any other owners who would like to have their cars photographed, let them know! The more the merrier!

Also, if you can't attend this event, I'll try to have another while I'm down in socal for Christmas break.

Thank you everyone and hopefully I'll get to see you guys this Sunday afternoon.

For those of you who don't know what HDR is and how it looks, feel free to browse my picture threads here on the forums, but here are a few of my car to get you guys an idea.
