Swanston Street cuts right through city center and RMIT sits right on the street itself. Cannavaro, I presume your place is north of RMIT? I stay at Grand Hyatt Melbourne which is on Russell Street, just one parallel street to the east of Swanston Street, and south of RMIT towards the Yarra River. The cross roads are Russell Street and Collins Street. Gimme a call if you are free to meet up for lunch or something. Food at Chinatown is pretty decent.

I'll look you guys up when I'm in town... Cannavaro, think I'll be going to MEL again next month. Let's try to meet up for makan this time. Is your OC there as well?
Woot2, have you been to Perth before? Let me know if you need any info there. I was there for 7 months during training so all the good makan places all explore liao.

1) AKITA Jap restaurant (cant rem where but in city)
2) Kanzan (lobby of Sofitel)
3) Plume restaurant (yum cha at Doncaster)
There are more, but these three are higly recommended.
Enjoy your stay in Melbourne.

Oh yes! Food, glorious food. Since you are staying in the city, I'd start by recommending nice places to eat in the city first.
City BBQ in chinatown has very nice roast duck rice and chicken rice and char siew rice.
If you want yong tau foo, there is a stall in the Target mall foodcourt. Not too ex and taste like what you find in SG.
Dim sum/yum cha, my personal favourite is Dragon Boat, although Sharkfin is also very popular. Word of caution though, if you are going in the weekends, best to make reservations.
And of coz, there is Mekong. One of the most famous landmark restaurant in Melb. I think they have the best viet food, although I have ppl telling me that there are better ones in the suburbs.
If you want really good and cheap shanghai food like fried dumplings, and "small dragon dumplings", and shanghai noodles, go check out Camy Shanghai dumpling house. Its in a small alley in chinatown. There is actually another one about 2doors away. This one isn't as good. You'd knw which one is the right one based on the size of the crowd.
The food bar at Crown casino has very nice fish & chips for a dirt cheap price of A$3!!! Can go there on days when you don't feel like spending too much on makan.
Crown also has a few good restuarants that are costly, but very good food. Namely Number 8, Waterfront, Cecconis. Oh, and Greco has very nice desserts, served in typical western portion (read- supersize me).
There is a nice Italian restuarant along Southbank that has nice pasta and pizza. They also have very nice breakfast. Can't remember the name of the restaurant.... Sorry.
Oh, you have to try Charmaine's ice cream!!! They have an outlet in Southbank and also at Federation Square. Their ice cream is the best. Very rich and creamy. But if you prefer gelato, there are 2shops in Lygon which has very very nice gelato. Can't remember the name though. Talking about Lygon, there is a small shop opened by Singaporean which has very nice mee pok da. Also can't remember the name of the place. But I'm pretty sure your schoolmates will know.
I think this is getting too long. I'll just stop here. Let me know what you feel like eating and I can help point you in the right direction. I studied there and I checked out alot of palces to eat. There are still many nice places to go in the city area, and lots lots more in the suburbs. Enjoy your stay in Melb!! I sure did!!! Sigh, I miss Melb......

if you want pancakes go to stokers near kew, if you like mekong go to "Yong kei" it has a chicken and a cow on its sign board its even better.
if you like ice-cream just go to il dolce freedo it is on the begining of lygon street( the part that is nearer to the city) they sell italian ice-cream they are call gelato.
then if you like korean you can just go opposite amusement zone ( can't remember the name but it is located right above TVB rental center)
if you are willing to spend for jap like me.... there are 2 very good jap restaurants, hanabishi (located in king street and the signboard is green in colour) or kenzan at the collin street ANZ building.
If your are even more crazy to spend like AUD100 per person for fusion food u can go to adore @ adelphus ( can't really remember how to spell the name but its freaking good) ask speacilly for oyster shooters and the beef wonton fusion style its worth every penny! its one of melbourne's top restaurant... make sure you have a week in advance reservation!
