Hi Bleachberu ,

i wash my car almost everyweek (once ). there is a car wash near 320 balestier road (underground carpark) . They claimed that they coat with some kind of selant after each wash ( as of whether it is true or not . i cant confirm but it not expensive ) The normal wash is only $5+$1 for tyre shine. my car does look really shining n clean after each wash. U can try them. They have a powerwash as well which cost $18 dollars ( but dont really know what the diff beside vaccuming ). I wax my car only once every 6 months by CAR INTERNATIONAL(heeehhee I know I'm lazy)

lastly, not too sure what is the Clear bra that you are talking about ? I know about bra but not clear bra !

wah everyone talking about groomworks and no one talking about Carzcomp????
I think Carzcomp carrying Swissol products apart from Zaino.

I think quite a few members here, Groomworks members,
maybe can organise a mini kopi *** polishing session like 3-4 of us.

But definitely not at Commonwealth. I totally agree with Lawrence on the sucky std of the commonwealth branch.

Thanks for the feedback ppl. Looks encouraging that many members pay a lot of attention to grooming and rightly so.

Ray, thanks for your suggestion. It may also work for me as I'm looking for a good washer foremost, I guess places like Groomworks will insist on packages (?) which I'm not so keen to commit right now as I want to explore and learn to DIY.

Does that wash place at balestier road have a name and number?

Clear Bra, from the US I think is like a super thin film that is used to protect the bumpers/bodykits of cars from pebbles and stones, scratches etc. Quite effective from what I read in US forums.

Hi
i am interested interested in polishing session. if got, please count me in...my area is Hougang.

IMO, Carzcomp is pretty exp compared to Groomworks. i have tried Zaino before for my previous black car. its very good and glossy for dark cars but there is one problem: it is very 'static' and attracts dirt like hell

imo, like all grooming centers, standards will drop as they take in more cars. best is still to spend some time every week to at least wash the car with your own wash mitt, shampoo and drying cloth. not very difficult considering the size of our rides

carzcomp is at Simon Road off Upper Serangoon.

Once u enter Simon Road, on yr right, the single storey shophouses.

the other branch is Cars D Elegance, next to Groomworks at Commonwealth mall.

can't remb the cost liao, i think it's $150 one time off and if you sign package,
it averaged $90 per polish.

Like Lawrence said,

Zaino attracts dust because of static so have to standby featherduster.

The last time I did Zaino, my ride haven't leave the shop, the dust settled in already.

Zaino is a show car polish, extremely wet looking when u leave the shop
but last like only a few days.
Menzerna lasts longer but to me not as shiny, but then again this my own personal opinion.

Just curious, has anyone tried Amazing Glaze?

I do not think that Spore has those Clear Bras that u are talking about.

But from a Malaysia Car Magazine. theres a Shop in KL that does 3M clear bras.
Its around S$3-500 depending on the shape and size.

But dont brother doing the Clear bras. cos the clear bra is a piece of plastic and it will still be promp to scratches. and after maybe 1year of usage , will have to change .

not worth the Money and Effort.

I think that the Clear Bras are for those Super Car like lambo, where Respraying will not give the original factory color and will be very expensive to respray.

Hi Morganoh,

I think the 3M clear bra is what I'm refering to! Interesting that KL has it but not here.

Noted on your point of not worth the $$ or effort.

Btw, a friend told me of a place called "Spas for Cars", quite good apparently. Anyone here tried it?

Have a good weekend everyone!

Cheers,
B

Frankly speaking , all the car grooming shops are around the same, cos most of the products claim to be able to last for 1 year, but as a matter of fact, all of them can't last a few mths.
After any car polish , u will be able to feel the car surface to be very very smooth, but after few days or weeks the smoothness will be almost gone, ask the operator , how to tell that the layer of wax they claim that will last for 1year is still on the car???
One way is to pour a cup of water and see how the water flow over the car.
If the water tend to "stick" on the car and does not roll off easily, that could only mean
1) Wax or Sealent is worn off
or
2) The Wax may still be there but the surface is very dirty and the water is trap due to the dirt.

So the best is to DIY,
1) wash with car shampoo
2) claybar
3) polish
4) sealant

And do it regularly like once a mth.

i was with spa for cars....but they have shifted to Sin Ming. Used to be at Telok Kurau.

They are very good. Very meticulous. Normally i will check for leftover stuff at the edges but i do not have to do that with them. they will make sure that there are no fingerprints when they handover the car to you.

But what i really liked about them was they even polished the INSIDE of the doors. As long as you open the front door and suicide doors...all the metal parts will be polished.

I would have continued with them if they stayed on at telok kurau....but too bad lah.

I am now with groomworks. Siglap outlet. Just went for the first session with them. Had to check for errors made and i found about 5 water/bird **** marks remaining and leftover wax along the sides. But they had no qualms about removing them when i 'scolded' them for negligence.

ONLY THING i don't like is the ramp....lowered cars will surely 'kiakkkkkkkkkkkkkk' when they go up or down. I have not lowered yet....so i am getting a little worried. Maybe i will buy a tentage and put outside and ask them to do it outside the shop. wahaha

Ratings - Spa For Cars (Zaino) - 9/10 (because nothing is perfect)
Groomworks (Merzena) - 6.5 to 7 / 10

Given a choice...i would gladly go back to Spa for Cars.

hope this helps.

Car Bra is only popular in the big countries... where open roads are full of tiny stones and insects. If you driven in Australia, Malaysia, US.... just to name a few you would know wat i mean. the front part of the car will be filled with crushed insects... And as this insects leave behind acidic jucies, and its bad for the paint work... thus its easier for them to have the car bra. But you dont get situation like these in singapore.
Plus car bra only covers the front part of the car, thus you would have the end of the sticker running somewhere in the middle part of the wheel arch... urgly...

Trivia:
do you know there are couple of clear 'bra' stickers on the 8?

Hi NgKenny,

Awesome post! Thanks.

I don't know the SG geography that well but I take it that Sin Ming is further away than previously. I live in the East Coast and obviously telok kurau would be nearer I'm guessing. But if Spas are doing such a good job, why not continue?

It seems like groomworks is over-rated judging from the posts here and they didn't do such a good job on your car.

How much are Spas charging btw?

Cheers,
B

They upsized their business. Previously at Telok Kurau....they are maxed out at 2 cars a day. And only 2 cars can be parked in the small unit....don't know how big is the unit at telok kurau so no comments on that.

I think i paid $400 for a 5 or 6 time visit as well as free 6 time car wash which i have never used.

Groomworks - there is a very PR guy there who can tell you the nicest things before you sign the package. Just take note. One ear in...one ear out and you are safe. But they are decent lah.
