4speed or 6speed auto? to buy or not to buy

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, from SG, and would potentially be getting a RX8 soon. I do have some doubts at the moment though.

I was reading that MM might be bringing in the 6 speed auto in June. Dealer just rang me and said he has a secondhand PI V.Red 05 RX8 4spd AT with Red/Black interior. I was just wondering if I should buy this or kill myself over the wait for the 6 speed.

Also as the car no plate is SFR 994 K. Does anyone know about the history of this car?

Gonna take it out for a test drive tomorrow

Curiously, where did you read that from? Any pricing info?

Yes, the wait will kill... You may not want to drive drive that 4AT if you're going for the 6AT one

If the brand new car fits your budget, go for it.

But you need to confirm your source for the 6AT. You will kill yourself twice if you wait and the car don't come...

I almost bought mine last week, but need to wait awhile and make sure job is stable before commiting to it. So have also decided to wait for the 6AT pricing till then. Have seen the red @ $90k, and dun think its worth it. Since PI 8 are now like $96k and u get interest rebates. Unless you would prefer high COE with the car.

By the way, speaking of 4AT and 6AT, can the 6AT be transplant from the MX-5?

Had been discussed in other parts of the forum before. Simple answer is no. The same 6AT from MX5 is going to be fitted on the new auto 8. But if you're thinking of changing a 4AT to 6 AT, the firmwares in the ECU and transmission chips in the current 4AT need to be changed and updated to 6AT with a 4 port engine. Basically not available unless you know the people in Mazda who wrote the codes :P

Just called MM, and they don't seem to be bringing it in.

We'll have to wait and see I guess. I am just trying to get out of an auto cos of these blasted traffic jams these days.

Called World of Wheels and they are checking on price and if they can order the 6spd AT in.

Wow!, PI 8s are now 96K?

Is the 96K deal based on a car value of 85K and COE bid of 11K for 3 tries?

Or is it based on confirmed COE, immed. delivery? If it's this, go for it!

Some PIs are quite unscrupulous and after a while,
they will tell u COE bidding is not successful and
tell u to top up a few K for a confirmed COE.

Now is the best time to book a car,
I don't remember the COE price ever going so low in a long time.

96K+ is confirmed COE at 10k rebate. 11k COE. What they told me was irregardless of the COE price, I will still get the car at that price and if it were to fall below 10k, I would get rebates. Another dealer I pass by, was advertising it for 90.2k with COE. COE capped at 9k. And if you wanna try higher COE like 12k, add 3k to the 90.2k. I wonder if it is price after Finance rebate... hmm.. forget to ask the chio bu. haha..... Some other dealer quote higher and claimed that theirs come with the 6 Disc Changer. hmm... I dun think that darn changer will cost 2k or more. And others claim to have higher OMV at abt 36k. The dealer i spoke to regarding the 96.9k has an OMV of close to 34k. Dun think additional OMV of 2k justify their increase by 3-6k.

Hey! Glad to know you finally got your ride. Anyway, I have been hearing stories about the PI u bought yours from. Seems like their reputation on the market is extremely bad. Went in there last sat to kaypoh... Salesguy came up to me ask if I looking for any particular car. Told him I am interested in the Mazda RX8. He replied... Ohh... Mazda must go to the other dealer, they dun deal with Mazda. So I pointed out to him the picture on their ad, and he was like err.... ohh... Mazda ar? How the hell can he be selling products he have no knowledge of. haha... Anyway, I read their company Motto and it says something like, "It's not about cheap price, It's not able great cars, It's about a great sales team with a great company support". Hahahahaaaa.......

The 2006 RX-8 with 6-speed AT is currently in production. Should be available sometime in March 2006. Think it is worth the wait, unless you need a new car before CNY.

Yea... Thats a worry, but a 2004 OMV will be much higher than a 2005 model. Thus it is unlikely that the 2004 price will be cheaper than the 2005. Well, unlikely but not impossible, coz they might wanna get rid of it to cut loss due to the fact that nobody wants the 2004 model, since the launch of 2005 model.
