All about my RX8 please share with me

Hi,

I have bough a second hand RX8 from year 2004 and want to share my info with others to hear what everyones going through here.

The car has caused me quite a few problems but I think I am getting past them.

First of the Catylitic converter broke. I was not going to pay the money for a new one so I replace the catalytic converter and front silencer with a mid pipe. It sounds fantastic now. Only problem is that the car has a stronger petrol smell.

The engine idles a little rough ocassionly especially when using air con and lights which irritates me, already had to have battery replaced and inhectors cleaned (any ideas)

I am using 5W 30 synthetic oil but after reading all the forums other say not to use it? What is everyone else using.

Never had any starting problems with the car it seems pretty reliable, have been put of abit with all the bad news in this forum.

Thanks

You didn't say how many miles you have.
I'd say start with plugs, coils and plug wires.
You can also consider a high flow cat.

Cat should have been still under waranty??? I'm not sure where you live but the US/Canada emissions warranty should still be valid

Yeah I wish but I live in southern Spain and you can forget that, they dont know what the word warrenty means in this country.

According to them the cat is not covered by warrenty at all. I tried everything but Spain is Spain.

The one big question is about the oil, really want to know what everyone is using because of all the stories i am hearing online about it.

My Mazda dealer knows so little about the RX8 and cars in general that he would put oil or mud in the car which ever is nearer.

^^Well there's a debate going on about the use of synthetic in a rotary.... You can get around the issue buy getting the Sohn adaptor which lets you run two stroke oil for the OMP and synthetic for the rest of the engine.
