Mission: Making it to DGRRXI!!!-Chelsea
So, I figured I might talk about my mission to make it from Miami to Deals Gap. I don't know if it's welcome in this section, but I suppose the mods will decide.
First, a brief history about me and Deals Gap.
This is my 2nd time going DGRRX. Last year, when I first bought my Rx8, I met a guy in Miami with an FD Rx7, who was very nice and helpful to me when I locked my keys in my trunk. Then he invited me to Deals Gap the next week and so the journey began.
From Jacksonville, then, I began late in the evening. I was trying to catch up to (we'll call him JT) JT who was passing by on the interstate in my area. We were on the phone back and forth but I couldn't catch up. -could be something to do with having to stop for gas more often than his Tacoma-. I was getting close to him near GA after alot of tailgating weaving, and cursing at people who blocked me in. Within a few miles of JT, I get picked up on radar. A very nice Georgia State Trooper comes up to my window, jolly as can be, writes me a ticket, and sends me on my way. $350 and 30 minutes lost.
I finally met up with JT north of Atlanta. Where we were supposed to share a hotel, so he said. Apparently, things didn't work out the way he thought, so I slept in my car. I tried. 3 hours later, at 5 in the Am, I told the concierge to give me a room for $30 or else! He gave me a room for $40 for 3.5 hours. Fair 'nuff. We started again in the morning. After a day of fun in Bryson City I started heading back that night at 7pm! Talk about tired. The end of that story...
Now, lets keep this one short. I planned to fly to DGGRXI. Found out I had a final the day I was supposed to leave. My teacher wouldnt let me take it early. Then found out I was also supposed to move out of the dorms the same day. So I moved out of my dorm a week early so I wouldnt have to do it this weekend (DGRRXI weekend) and lived out of a suitcase for a week. I bit the bullet and took my exam and checked out of the dorm and found a ride to the airport immediately after. My ride fell through. I found another ride. took 2 hours to for a 30 min drive to the airport cuz it was hailing. Made it to the airport. Obama grounded my plane in orlando so he could take air force one into miami and go watch the space shuttle launch. Space shuttles don't launch when its hailing GENIUS. Got on a flight 4 hours late. Now...I'm at Charlotte Douglas Airport. Where I will enjoy another 8 hours till Asheville flights resume in the morning. Now you see why I have time to write this ...just remembered my clothes are already in asheville...I wont have anything to wear. Im in shorts and flip flops and I bet its cold outside lol. Tomorrow I get to hang in jacuzzi at nantahala village! and go for drive with 8's and 7's! Ahh yes but for now I'll sleep in this chair. I dont fit under the armrests anymore
This is so fun though I'm making it no matter what

I know it sounds like I'm an immigrant or something with my grammar, but my brain has actually just closed up shop for the night.
...and yeah... it was hailing in Miami... In late April! I was definitely 90 degrees this morning

Lol you never know with DGRR for me! sorry I didn't say hello, I only saw your car fly by once on the dragon!
I did have a good time phil! I felt accomplished for making it! and I met so many great people on planes, in airports, and at DGRR. There are so many great people that come across your paths in life!
It was nice to meet you too and thats a very nice thought. thanks, but I dont feel like i could accept anything that comes along with being registered because I have never registered for an event :/ mainly cuz i was never sure whether i would make it or not!
I had a great time, and I'm glad I made it and met everyone

MZBenz, You are the type of person why I organize my event.. Hardcore rotary person who goes out of their way to attend the event for less than 24 hours.
Hope you will attend again, with our without a rotary car.

Thanks, you go out of your way to put it on and it sounds like you really went out of your way to make it there this year too. I'm glad you do everything you do to get it together

Awe thanks Phil!
Haha oops! No III will be more personable!
Hey ricky! Determination and running on very little brain power is how i do it!! Its a real fun event. I'll bet you would love it. You should try to make it out sometime. Maybe you can head up to markham park next year with sfl rotary people. Saul can tell you who and how. They take their 7's to the sflmazdacrew epic meets too and you can meet some of those guys who caravan their FD's up to the dragon and go along!
We've got a newborn SFL Rotary head here everyone!
