So ya, the 8 won't start ... Anyone up for a midweek troubleshoot?

So car got pulled out, won't mention who, and now it won't start.

It cranks, started last night, and died too quick before I could get on the gas.

What I've done so far:

Pulled out fuses, BOTH of them, this time.

Pulled out, they weren't wet like last time, but a bit wet, put in plugs that I got from Gecko.

Cranking, engine won't turn.

Put back in my plugs, from this year, today. Still no start.

I have a CEL, but that mostly likely is due to the catless. I don't have an OBD2 scanner to read if there are any other codes.

I figure, I try a push start.

Greg won't be free till Sat to lend a hand.

Anyone wanna swing by here instead of the AMC meet, and help me get going.

Beer and wings on me.

NOOOO not again pros...what you mean got pulled out? U mean moved and then turned off....so flooded you think? Then engine won't turn over at all? Have you warn out your battery trying to start it?

I could come over after hockey and skip the AMC meet

OK! The way I read it was no crank = u be fuked. If it's cranking and not grabbing/starting probably flooded. You pulled the plugs and turned it over already to unflood it?

Yep, no fuel in there, I saw no vapors, or liquid spurting out.

Got the fuses out too.

I figure we push start it tonight, if not get it onto the garage, and do a deflood, I can get into the plugs and out within 15 mins now.

If you are home now, pull the plugs and crank it over, leave the plugs out and get that part out of the way before me/we head over. We can try the other stuff later and see if the magic touch will work again

Put the plugs back in around 8:00 tonight as I should be there around 9.

pm me your address again, it's been too long.

I'm at work till 9, so home by 9:30, my rents are home in any case, they have already met most of you, some in poses that have scarred them, ahem Chris, , so you can grab keys off them.

The front drivers wheel lugs are loose, so if you guys are gonna push start, tighten it down.

Emmm... I'm not touchin' **** until the owner is present. Would be just our luck that a cop would roll by while we're working on it.. lol.

and that wasn't a pose... it was an action. You had been warned :p

How come it's so easy to flood the engine on these suckers???

I've start and stopped the FD numerous times and it has never wanted to flood.

It's a good thing my girl didn't pick the 8 for her car. We would be getting the engine deflooded all the time!
Women are not very sensitive to vehicles. They just want them to work all the time with the least amount of trouble on their part. Just an appliance to them...

I hope you guys get it unflooded. I would help, but I've got a few things to do tonight. not to mention I live on the opposite side of the city.

Good luck everyone!

the FDs are seemingly impossible to flood unless the engine iteslf is tired. we have a customer with an FD that has the most disgusting and old spark plugs you've ever seen in a rotary (he just wont spend the money on a new set) and you can short start that thing twice a day for a week without any problems. ask me how i know. haha.

the reasons 8s love to flood is the Multi Side Port. its really a doube edge blade. its great for emissions but it makes excessive amounts of fuel on cold starts 100X worse than other rotaries. thats why you dont get away with it in the 8.

Jay, i wouldnt try to push start it yet. you said it started once but died, so you are getting there. just get that charger/starter thing hooked up and keep trying to deflood and make sure you are partial throttle while you are cranking. that way when it does decide to start there is no panic to reach the gas to keep it alive.

I deflooded a friends car last week by myself. There were people around but i couldnt trust them to actually help out. haha. I cranked it for a while with the plugs out. then cranked it for a while with the plugs back in but the fuel pump fuse pulled, then i put the fuse back in and used the fuel cut function instead of needing someone to pull the fuse. it actually worked just as well if not better than the two man deflood. I just held the pedal all the way to the floor (fuel cut) until it started to fire a bit and then let the pedal up just a bit so it would come off of fuel cut but the throttle would still be open when the sucker finally fired. truth is you need the throttle to be open while you are cranking you just cant put the pedal right to the floor all the time becaues that will cut off the fuel for when you actually want more in there. remember the problem is too much fuel in the engine, but you also need to get lots of air in there too because you already have a fuel rich environment. part of the problem when they flood is that the plugs are wet and the compression is nill due wash out. but also, too much fuel and not enough air, i dont care what kind of spark you have, that dog wont hunt.

dont give up and assume there is something else wrong, especially when you said it already fired up and died.

good luck.
