Rusty MK.II!
Hello gentlemen!
So first and foremost, I am really starting this post to log my car and progress and projects and stuff. I do have another site that helps me keep track of parts used on the car, but I think this will be a good place for me to have a written log of the vehicle.
Background:
I started off with a 2004 Titanium Grey RX-8 GT, and had that for about two (2) years. The car had been serving me very faithfully, and I am very pleased to have own the vehicle. My wife and I have been on many road trips with the car. We had named the car "Rusty" (as you guys may have already noticed), simply because of the amount of rust that was on the vehicle.
Fast forward two (2) years, and I have finally picked up a new RX-8! It is a 2010 RX-8 R3, Velocity Red, with just under 50,000KMs when I had picked the car up. I had went all the way to Montreal to pick up the car, and drove it back, so naturally the car has just over 50,000KMs now.
A small dent on driver front fender, and scuff marks on the rear bumper, but other than that the interior was good, and paint is still in very good condition. I have already gotten the car rustproofed, and will be getting a ceramic coating done on the vehicle as well, because I really want to baby the vehicle. This is ultimately going to be my project car, and already have a 10 to 15 year plan set up.
Having said that, since this is going to be my only car, I will have to drive the vehicle during the winter time for the first year at the very least; hence the rustproofing, and then I will be washing the underside of the vehicle everyday to try and keep the vehicle in as good a shape as possible.
The other option is to try and get my insurance agent to put on the insurance for my 2004 RX-8 for the winter months, which I am still looking into that to compare the pricing, and if it is worth spending the extra money to do that or not; or if I should just sell the 2004 RX-8? Well, that is for another time.
If any of you guys on here want to ever leave me any pointers or comments, please feel free and do so!
Christopher

DAY 2
Decided to start transferring my mods from the 2004 RX-8 to the 2010 RX-8!
Took me about three and a half hours, which probably should not have, but I had missed a few steps - silly me!
It was a lot of fun though!

DAY 4
Finally got my front license plate relocator installed! I am glad that I had picked up a vehicle from Montreal, so the front bumper was not drilled for the plate. Now my front looks super clean!!

don't go overkill on washing 1- it's not practical 2- once a week is fine to get the salt off.
you have already rust proofed it. that's 85% of the protection you need. thought about buying another one myself but 1 turbo rx8 is crazy enough. looking good.... best of luck.

I will be posting updates as it comes. This evening I will be dropping my car off to get it ceramic coated by my friend, and so the car will be out of action for the next two to three days.
I will post some pictures once I get the car back - assuming that the weather is good for some picture taking.

Nice buy
The washing regiment usually depends on where you park. If the car is out in the cold the entire time, wash it when its warm, so you're not forcing water into places where it will immediately freeze and expand.
If you park in a heated garage, wash and dry before parking as much as you can.

I have been also thinking about the option of driving the 2004 RX-8 during the winter, and park the 2010 at a friend's underground spot at his condo; just at a charge. I have not decided yet, but that is definitely an option - I am just not sure if I really want to spend more money on a monthly basis.

Life After 8K RPM....
Hey Chris,
Congrats Bud! what a great find man.. Finally Rusty gets a break loll.
I think your best bet is to secure the R3 at your friend's condo and drive Rusty through the winter :-)
All the best bro.
Hope to see you around next Spring meet :-)

It has been a LONG time since we last spoken to one another! I hope everything is going well with you!
Thank you! I was very happy to have found an R3 that is in my favourite colour!
Yeah, I have definitely been contemplating on the idea of driving Rusty 1 for the winter, and keeping Rusty 2 clean and warm at my coworker's apartment. I will have to look into this, and do some more research and weigh the two options before I can make an educated decision.
