Rock Guard as an undercoat

I was looking uder my car the other day, turns out i saw some places where bare metal was exposed to the element of the roads. I then realized i had some cans of black rock guard sealant on the garage shelves, so i tought it couldn't hurt to spray a little on those areas. Turns out it bonded real nicely, so i sprayed all the spots i could find. Looks good, but i feel a little edgy about how protective this stuff really is against water. Hard time getting off my hands, so it must've bonded prity good. Any idea?

I am not so keen on spraying any tar like stuff on cars. Unless the you are dealing with pristine new metal you always run the risk of trapping moisture and rust that has already started, that could make things worse. If you are driving in bad weather I would maybe oil spray the thing instead, quality stuff like Crown or Metropolitan. I have had very good luck with oil spraying some cars and very very bad luck with one car that was rustproofed with tar like stuff and rotted out in no time, even stuck them with warranty repairs. Personally I think the corrosion protection on the bottom of the car is marginal at best and it kind of looks like a joke relative to my old Audi winter car which has very thick polypropylene undercoating that is nearly bulletproof. Just the sound of driving the 8 across a gravel parking lot runs shivers up my spine, tinkle, tinkle, tinkle . . . Bottom line is it is a sports car and they saved weight where they could and cars with really good corrosion protection tend to weigh in like tanks. They may have also saved some money there like they did by not spraying clear coat in the trunk area and under the hood of my car, looks like red primer, not pretty . . .
