I was just checking my oil when I got home from work tonight. I wiped down the stick and re-inserted and about 3 seconds later, I pulled it out to read it. I couldn't tell where the oil level was. I wiped it down and did it again. Still couldn't see it. Am I blind or is it that hard to read? My oil was just changed yesterday too. If I can't see it, how am I going to top up the oil? Anyone else with this problem? If not, please teach me.

actually the trick in using the old dipstick, is to make sure the markers on the dipstick faces the engine when you insert it into the tube, i always got a good reading doing it this way when i had the old dipstick
btw the new dipstick is the hotness, so much easier to read oil level now lol
The dealer may have overfilled it. I've had 2 oil changes done at the dealer and they overfilled it both times. They've overfilled so much so that it's off the scale of the dipstick. It took about 2000kms for it to come back to F the last time. I will be telling my dealer not to do it again.

You can also try sanding the reading area of the dipstick down so that there isn't black paint on that area and it will make it easier to read as well, that is what I did and now I can actually see the oil level.
Is there a place where we can get the newer/easier to read one?
there is a TSB about foam/milky residue on the old dipstick when it's cold outside. Complain about that to the dealer and they should replace it with the new dipstick under warranty

I wished I had checked this before my visit. I guess I will call them tomorrow and see what they tell me.

My dealer indeed overfilled the oil at the last oil change. 1000 miles later, the level was unreadable, say 2 inches above the Full mark. What are the odds on engine damage? Is Herbert's car OK 2 years later??

Yep. Mine's fine. I'm not sure how much it was overfilled at the time but I remember not having to top up for a while longer than previously. But no damage done.
