Exclamation Need Help ! closing deal with Mazda

Hi there,

First of all.. Happy Holidays to All !

Ok here is my dilema with a future purchase

I went to the dealer for an RX8 - gave my deposit and waiting for the delivery. When i went the next day to finalize the paper work the sales person who told me that the Nav will play DVD admitted the mistake that it doesnt play, he did admit his mistake to the manager and now they will compensate the trouble by actually purchasing the neccessary parts to make it play DVD's while the E-brake is on. Knowing this we were very pissed of the sales person lying and we were convinced that they can deliver their promise.

I get a call today. saying that they CANNOT make the NAV system play DVD (this is as promised on the contract written in black n white) saving that they could not get the part and the support to do the job from 2 manufacturers.

Now they tried to compensate again by giving a winter package (Winter tires and rims Dunlop M something for the brand) which they said cost aroind 1400.

I really wanted to get the nav to play DVD movies to entertain the passengers while driving in traffic or long distance travel. (This is also the main selling point thats why we got the car over the lexus IS)

Based on the contract can i now back out or ask for other accessories. I know i can get the winter tires for 1000 after researching around.

**I though that the Nav can play DVD movies and was confirmed by the Sales person and the asistant Sales manager that is why I was very happy on the deal.. then suddenly everything is a headache***

**When the Sales manager said that he drives the Silver RX8 in the lot and was able to play dvd movies, this factor also solidified my decision**

Can i back out and wait for the 2006? atleast now I know better (and the dealership.. i hope..)

Dealership was in the GTA area
thanks in advance,
Ryan

Ryan ... sorry about your situation. Yea, silly salesmen once told me that it's a V8 engine. Good times.

With regards to the DVD playing situation ... the car has a DVD drive but it doesn't have the ability to decode the MPEG info from the disc. But don't despair, the NAV screen can be made to play DVDs but you will require some electrical work. Basically, you need something that will "hack" into the screen to make it work (AV switcher) and you will need an external DVD player like a portable DVD player, car PC, PS2 or Xbox, etc. Ohhh ... if had the Nav, I'd so get the PS2 put in ... then I'd never leave the car. Back on track ... there are a number of ways you can do it but I think the one that most guys have opted for is via this thread:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-s-video-into-nav-av-electronic-video-switcher-install-44095/

I think there is a vendor here mazdaparts.com that sells the equipment.

Print out the thread and show it to the dealership ... then they will have no excuse on making it work because a bunch of "regular joes" got it to play DVDs. As to the 2006 model, there's nothing terribly exciting that you would miss in a 2005 model (unless you are getting auto because they HP is improved). If they refuse to do this, perhaps you can get them to give you the appearance package or MS upgrades (flywheel, shocks and struts).

Good luck.

Have them give you winter factory rims and the dunlop m3's not just tires. You can get the video you desire. Make sure you are getting the deal of a liftetime, as it is a 2005.
Ask for sirius sat.

Ryan...

If the "the main selling point [of the RX-8]...over the lexus IS" for you is the ability for the navi system to play DVD movies, then- I'm sorry- but that IS pretty sad... (No pun intended.) It sounds like you don't understand the ownership implications of each car and are somewhat in denial of what you really want & need... * * *

The Lexus IS is going to be a better passenger vehicle because it will have better gas mileage, more cabin space (headroom, footroom, comfort), more cargo space, require less maintenance etc.

The 8, on the other hand, is an exhilirating sports car with special maintenance & operating requirements that not everyone is willing to put up with- ie checking/ adding motor oil every 2nd fill-up, warming-up/ warming down the engine etc. Are you honestly ready for all that?

Detrich <-- NOT in luxury car denial...

Ryan, no reputable dealer is going to sell you a car that violates the motor vehicle codes - and it is very much against the law for a vehicle to be able to play videos in view of the driver. I don't know why you would expect that feature, since NO manufacturer sells a vehicle that can play DVDs visible to the driver.

Yeah, the aftermarket can make it happen - you should have come here first to ask about this feature/function! Forget about your dealer, buy the car (they're offering you $1500 compensation because the couldn't provide something that's illegal anyway? TAKE IT!), then make the mods yourself or with the assistance of a local Auto A/V shop.

Happy Holidays to you too.

Can i back out and wait for the 2006? YES YOU CAN

I work at Oakville Mazda and would like to talk to you in regards to the purchase that you are going to back out of. I have the answer that you are looking for. I am sure that you will love it. I just need to ask you a couple of questions in regards to your new RX-8.

Agreed...but just ask for cash rebate as oppose to the winter wheels...$1400 of a $40K car is like 3%, which is a very good "discount" on top of what you have already negotiated!!

Hi All,

Thanks for the numerous replies !

Ill try to reply as much as i can

In regards of the NAV dvd to play movies.. I had an idea that it might not be able to play. I did some research in 2004 about dvd and did not go too much in dept coz i could afford (hehehehe just graduated). Then now i go to the dealer and sales person and asistant sales manager says it does. Even the Sales Manager says he drives on while playing movies. (this made me beleive in the thought i had) Now that ive been reading the forums about this topic, now i have more formal information (thanks for the links guys) I am going to lease the car thats why i wanted them to do the install to cover the warranty (no headaches for me) I did check mazdaparts.com and told the dealership to get those kits to make it work, their excuse is "we cant coz they are in the US" not really happy about it.

I beleive the are giving me the winter factory rims and the dunlop M3's.

As for the IS250 and the RX8, for what we needed they are both candidates i know they have pros and cons which my fiance and i did consider. Then the sales person said that "we can give you the car outside with the dvd nav packgage that plays DVD why get a lexus if you can get the top of the line RX8 for similar price" then it got me thinking... for what im paying i get the DVD capability (Detrich no offense taken hope it kinda clears it a bit.

I also liked the RX8 because it was kinda a dream to have one before i could not afford it (and yeah fiance likes it too + bonus....

Gord96BRG
- after signing the next day the sales manager tell me they cant have the dvd playing while in motion, so he told me that they will install it but i will have to play around with the E-brake to make it play. (he also explained me about the law interms of having a DVD movie playing with the drivers view. But they promised and wrote down in paper that they will do this option. (yup he even said its an option by Mazda.)

RXXX-8ED
- ill try to call you again Thanks so much for the info...

yiksing
- it was like a bonus to the car (but they promised so shoudnt they deliver? its in writing too) I drove the car and i really liked it ( i just wanted to be fair since i think i was fair with them to start with)

Hidehiko
- im still thinking of your idea

Thanks so much guys for you time and effort on this

Shame on you for listening to a car salesman and his manager. I wouldn't blame them. They work at a car dealership; they don't know any better. (most, not all) I'd put the blame on you for not being informed before you went to the dealer. Too many people go into buying a car without knowing enough about it. This seems to be especially true of the RX8. That's why you get so many threads asking about oil and gas mileage....blah, blah, blah.

Take the winter tire package and run. You need that anyway if you are going to drive in the late fall, winter or early spring. Remember it isn't just the snow to worry about but the cold temperatures with summer tires.

You really seem obsessed about the DVD....perhaps too much time spent watching "Pimp my Ride"?

- i understand your point regarding not knowing. Just wasnt sure even the Sales Manager / asistant Sales manager was not aware of their products? I understand the sales person. I was just hoping that at least the sales manager would atlest know.

thanks for your input

I think there is a thread here somewhere of all the bullshit dealers have told people...When I was shopping for the car at the first dealership I went to (Kramer) I had to educate my salesperson.

I'd say step back and re-assess this DVD player thing all together. Realistically, how often will you be taking long trips that require watching a movie? I'd rather take the money and have the dealership give you a bunch of Mazdaspeed accessories at cost (of which are also warranty friendly). Brake pads, lowering springs, exhaust. You'll get much better use out of those items, and the novelty probably won't wear off like the DVD playing nav system. The winter tire package as said seems very sensible as well.

Hmm, let's see:

DVD + in-car playing = collision into tree off of snow-covered corner.

Winter rims + Dunlop Snowies = avoidance of collision, and continued enjoyment of Rotary Fun.

The math is easy, no?

Exclamation Tires....

You are sure you're getting a set of winters on rims AND the stock summers, right?

The winters for $1400 sounds good, but make sure it's not a switcheroo....

Piece of advise....all of us buy our cars from different dealerships, and some have good and some have bad experiences. The sales reps don't necessary know anything about the audio/ navi set-up that's in da car. Best thing to do in this case is to go to an audio shop and have them work on the system. Cuz that's what they do for a living!!! I had my done @ 1 and they did a fantastic job!
