A moment of silence, please

Today was 3 years and 3 months that I had owned my RX-8. Today was the last day that she will ever be driven.

I was making my drive home, making a left turn at an intersection. I seen an break in traffic and pulled forward in preparation and paused as I waited for traffic to pass. Just then the light went yellow, oncoming traffic came to a stop and I began my turn. Suddenly the truck that was straggling along accelerated to try and beat the light and ploughed through my front end.

Insurance hasn't gotten back to me yet as this just happened today, but I can't see them not writing her off. Front end is totaled and all the airbags triggered.

I walked away with minor burns on my arm from the airbag deploying. Other guy was fine; his old GMC held up better than my RX-8.

oh man. The cars replaceable ... your life isnt. Glad youre okay man.

Thats why i always wait a good 2 seconds after the light turns red to make the turn. You get a few people honking behind you to go but id rather get honked at than getting hit.

A sad day for sure. Reality is, it can happen to anyone, anytime, in any way. The most you can do, is to try to keep cool when it does happen.

I bet it took a lot of spirit to post those photos! Likewise, glad you got to walk away. Look forward to seeing your next toy.

Damn! Sorry to see that!
Last week, some lady tried to beat the traffic crossing the road during rush hour. Didn't even look my way. Luckily, I anticipated it and I managed to slow down. She freaked and slammed on her brakes. I t-boned her, but not hard. Autopac is fixing her up

Not to take away from your tragedy, but at least you're ok. Like Rotary-RX8 said, cars are replaceable, life isn't!

How are your rims? Are any of them salvageable?

It's not necessarily too soon. For you, perhaps.

Yeah, that's the thing though: all the other traffic had come to a stop and he was was in the background still when I began my turn. The other guy just wasn't paying attention. He also had TONS of room to swerve away from me, but didn't. It was just some 16yr old kid who probably only had his license a couple months so its not surprising.

Even more troubling was the call I got from my adjuster today. Apparently the information the kid gave the police doesn't match up. Both the contact number and the kid's policy number aren't accurate. Not sure what to think.

As far as salvage, it depends what my insurance company will let me take off it when they write it off. I don't suspect they'll let me take much, if any, but I'll keep you posted if anyone is interested in parts.

The driver side front wheel was destroyed, but the rear and both passenger side ones looked fine still. On that note, if they let me keep the RP03's I do have an extra one with some minor curb rash to complete the set.

Your 8 did much better in the crash than the truck did.
You can see how much energy the front of your 8 absorbed to protect you. It's a very very strong car.

Cars are disposable... as are pick-up truck drivers... IMHO ... Glad you got out okay.

Time to get another one!

Well things are moving along (sort of). Other guy's insurance information got sorted out. My adjuster must have just heard me wrong or I read it wrong. Though because of all the hail thats been dropping in the area its kind of brought everything to a halt as far as insurance processings go. But first offer was 11,500 so that's something.

Here's some more pictures. The one of the windshield with the crack, that was from my head. I went back and looked and my seat belt nearly pulled right off the door!

Also, since I wont be getting back into an RX-8, my sub box and (unfinished) amp cover are up for grabs.

And after a week of scouring I've settled on a new vehicle today. Going to be the proud new owner of a 2004 Ford F-150 FX4, in black of course.
