I got a 2nd set of front pads for the brake noise issue. These make more noise than the ones they replaced. First thing in the morning or after some rain is the worse. I am now embarrassed again to pull up to the light with cars around. This is a damn shame.

Some RX-7 input here.
I had a problem with my front brakes squealing during engagement. I solved the problem by buying a 'brake hardware kit' and installing it with a good dose of anti-squeal. That was at least 4 years and 1 pair of pads ago. The kit made the difference. And all the kits was, was a set of steel shims that sit between the pads and the calipers.
I've just phoned the dealership here. They say that there is no such kit for the 8. But the parts manager did say he'd check with the service people to see if they've heard anything.
I think it's a dead-end, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

My brakes started squealing when I drove off the lot after getting my winter wheels mounted. I thought that it couldn't have been coincidental, so I took it back in. They switched out the brakes, as per the TSB, but I still had squealing, although not as much. That was last October.
Now, I still have the winter wheels on, but my brakes only squeal when they're wet, so I'm not worried about them anymore.
Besides, who needs brakes anyway? :-)

I did get my front brakes replaced in September from the dealer that I bought the car from - I had been complaining since I bought the car in June - they told me that Mazda had no knowledge of the problem - but with enough bitching from my side, they finally changed them.
But the problem never went away - so I got sick of my dealership and called around Vancouver to see if any of the other dealerships heard of the problem. Only one of them had at the time - so I went there, they changed all four brakes and I haven't had any problems since then!! (knock on wood!!)

Had the front pads replaced by Mazda when i complained about the noise. They also machined the rotors. That was at 15,000km. Have had no noise since, now at 22,000km.

Had mine replaced at about 15k, no noise, until a week and a half ago, at 20k, then its been getting slowly worse, havent had time to bring it in again to see what they can do yet.... hope they get a solution, cuz I love the car, but I agree about feeling embarassed as my car squeals when stopping...

I was going to hold out to do mine so that I could use up my brakes then get a free replacement later. Mine was quiet from Sept (purchased) until end December, I got tired of listening to it so I had them change at my 8,000 about 2 weeks ago. I have no squealing now, it squealed for me everytime I applied the brakes to stop, the only way not to get the squeal was to apply more pressure.

Hey,
i had my brakes replaced @ 19,300 last December 04 and everything was fine. About a month ago (march) the front brakes started squeeling again...So I guess I'll call and set up a appt. to look at them in a couple weeks as I will need a oil change also..And maybe I'll have them do the N flash as I have a auto and heard it's more for them than the sticks...

Got mine replaced at 3.5k a few weeks ago. They were fine for about a week but they started squealing again. Its not as loud but its more high pitched.

i had my pads changed when the the new supposedly "less noise" pads came out last november. They started squealing a week afterward.
On the other hand, I've grown to like the squeal. It means I have excellent braking.

Just got mine changed today at 14,000 km. They had just started squeeling in the last few weeks...not too badly but bad enough to be slightly embarrassed when they did.
The dealership was actually very good about it. They didn't hear the squeeling when they took it out but they took my word for it. I like that !

My brakes squealed really bad from the day I bought my car. After reading that mazda realeased a service bulletin stating that they have a new type of brake pad available for the RX8 I called my dealership and luckily they had a couple sets of these new pads in stock. I took it in a few weeks ago to have them changed and haven't heard a thing from them since, dealer didn't even need to hear them they just went ahead and changed them out free of charge.
