I hate mondays and I have to post, blood, toil, sweat and victory @ Mosport

"I beg to move, that this club welcomes the formation of a rx8 racing fan club representing the united and inflexible resolve of ABR Racing team to pursue the races in 2009 to a victorious conclusion...I hope that any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the rotary engine reconstruction, will make allowance, all allowance, for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act...I would say to the race team, as I said to those who have joined this movement: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat."

Ok, enough Winston Churchill speech rewrite for the British Empire Motor Club race win, but I am still so excited with joy when I write this.

For the past five years, Al Balinsky Racing has been competing in regional motorsport events. The team did not have much sponsors nor money (pretty much a set of brand new dedicated Trans Am race tires equals the total amount of operating expenses ABR has for the whole racing season), yet full of passion and ingenuity tackling different challenges encountered along the way.

ABR racing have their down and lows (and blown apex seals), but on Sunday, May 10 2009, the effort finally paid off.

As usual, Al's Rx-7 race car started all the way at the back of the grid at position 40th. The morning race was started with chilling wind and not enough sunshine, and there were still numerous water spot on the track, especially at turn 5. Al held on and as a result turn in a slightly slower yet more consistent time of low 1:38s.

Avoiding traffic and getting up in position, the car prepared with help from Scarboro Mazda, BFGoodrich Tires, Mazmark/Rytech Horsepower, NGK Spark Plug, Eurasia Collision Center and Millennium Graphics jumped 36 position to 4th by end of race 2. It was usual for ABR Racing, where victory was so close before something goes terribly wrong. Fortunately, something different is happening this time.

First, we have a much more mellow exhaust sound. Since the installation of his "quiet" exhaust, its harder to hear his car across the whole track. Instead you just get drowned by the sound of a screaming rotary from hundred of meters away. That definitely helped the communication between pit crew and the driver!

Second, the amount of support. We have the largest showing of Mazdas showing in a racing event in recent years. As a promotion for both the sport, the brand and for charity, it was a resounding success.

Lastly, the weather. It just got better and better, and with a more healthy engine than ever and a good tire change strategy, Al managed to get into 1st position and hold on the lead until the end of race 3.

ABR Racing also managed to won the overall Spring Trophy Race as Al's class was by far the largest of the day and the BIG trophy goes to the winner of the class.

This is truly an epic win of all proportion.

We would like to thank our dedicated team members, our sponsors, and we would also like to thank everyone who helped make this happen. You know who you are. Be it the guy and the gal who did the registration, the guys who cooked on the track, the guys who organized the event, the guys who bought food and drinks, the guys who bow down and take pictures(wtf lol), and all those who actually showed up.

Regardless, may I finish this post with the rest of the speech:
"I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Let that be realised; no survival for the British Empire Motor Club races, no survival for all that the ABR Racing team has stood for, no survival for the urge and impulse of the ages, that mankind will move forward towards its goal. But I take up my task with buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men. At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, "come then, let us go forward together with our united strength.

May the Wankel be with you."

Great write up of the event. It was pretty cool to see all the RX8s running on the track.
