Hail damage

So...I went to a paint shop yesterday after work to get a quote on some minor stuff, chipping, dents, scratches touched up and fixed. After looking over my car with the guy for a good 5 - 8 minutes, the sun hit my car just right and looking down the side the guy noticed little indents along the side panel just below the window frame. We looked over the rest of the car and in the right light u can see them pretty well everywhere. Very small little indents which the guy said is 'hail damage' and being hail damage it is covered under insurance. I called to put a claim in last night, now waiting to hear back from the adjuster.

Questions - has anyone here had this or claimed this?

The guy I talked to said rates shouldn't go up...anyone know for sure?

Recommended body shop?

The one I took it to seems like a decent guy, willing on top of the repaint, fix basically anything else I want and put 3M on my hood and fenders for free when done and pay for my deductible.

Posting in the Canadian forum since our insurance companies rules will be different than the states of course.

There should be a lot of respsone to this since last year we had those reak hail incidents where guys like Smoking La La and TurboEight had their cars pummelled with hail.

they shouldn't go up with a comprehensive claim.

the only reason I can see why they would go up from this is if you have had too many comp claims. Or if you had a claims free discount and if their rules state that a comp claim will remove that discount.

Actually it requires cumulo-nimbus(thunderhead) clouds to cause hail. The ice is small and light enough to be buoyant in cold air masses. As a result, the ice particles float up and down within the cloud, getting bigger each cycle. If you get a cross section of a hailstone, it will have rings like that of a tree. Around here, we don't have extreme enough weather to get the golf ball sized lumps that more mountainous regions get...

I'll shut up and go away now.

Ya I read that as well...I have no prior claims (at this insurance company), my old one I did when my car was stolen. Have to wait for the adjusters...slow ******.

Any thoughts on a body shop?? Eurasia...any other?

U have seen my car it isn't very noticeable, hell ya if I can get it all done back to spanky new...sweet it is

SO...talked to insurance, it's covered, premiums DO NOT go up (act of GOD) lol. I just have to take it to a shop and have an adjuster come out and see it.

THE BEST SHOP to take her to?!?!?!?!?!? The shop I went to warranties their work for life (minus road chips of course) so would I be safe with that?

Why don't you drop it off it at the shop my car is at? Check with your insurance to see if Eurasia Autobody is part of their trusted shops. Eurasia did Chris' car and Eddie's. However, if the shop is trusted by your insurance and they paint flakes or you have any issues they ahve to keep painting it till it meets your par.

That's where I'm heading on Sat, since they close at 6 during the week see what they say. Eurasia is NOT on their list second question I asked them. Do you know, does Eurasia warranty their stuff for the life u have your car? Also wonder if they will go the extra mile that this other guy is saying to me.

I'm gonna get my new toys and then she will be in the shop for two weeks getting a facial booooooo

June 16th was the fateful day that hail came down in richmond hill, hail the size of golf *****, I was on my lunch break driving home when it hit. All i could do was remain in my car and just watch it get smashed, it was the worst feeling in the world.

After the hail I had about 700 dents of various sizes from the hood all the way to my trunk and the side of the car that you speak about. My hood looked like swiss cheese, I took my car to BMC auto and they did pure paintless dent repair and replaced the hood, all in all it cost 8600 to my insurance and my rates are up a bit this year.

Hail is the worst, I never saw it that bad in all my life living in richmond hill. I hope no one here has to go through what i went through

Damn man...we got it but not that bad, guess that's why mine isn't anything near that bad. **** that is expensive...u think paintless dent repair is better in this case? I want to get other little flaws fixed in the process, so thinking a full repaint. Did BMC do a good job? I HATE flaws and so Thief can't go freakin nitpicking around my car pointing them out to me lol.

They did a great job! My car looks like new again, they even took care of the dent i had on the passnger door where some A-hole dented my car by opening the door on it. I just don't like bondo filler.........Paintless dent repair is excellent but you need to find the right peeps to do this kind of work......but since i treat my car better than how some guys treat their girlfriends i had to go that route

No probs Thumper! You can always do a combination of paintless dent repair and re-painting. but if you want to do the whole car or if the majority of the car requires paint then you might as well just go with the re-painting your car.

The problem is smokin, is if you have one little dent or scratch that needs to be touched up, to do it proper they have to paint that whole panel which really sucks I made a call and it doesn't seem like insurance will cover a Hail paintless dent removal, and pay to paint/fix the other things I want done. So leaves me left with repaint and fix, to fix up everything I want. As long as I get a life time warranty on the paint job I should be good?!?! right?!?!

If you have scratches might be better to go with a new paint job, Paintless dent repair is good if you want to keep the original paint. I love my original paint and I didnt want a few panels to have be replaced and repainted, to me it would never look the same. I was very persistent on them using paintless dent repair only and dude at the body shop agreed and had someone he trusted come in to do it. As for the insurance BMC was not on their approved list but i told them that i wanted them to take care of it as avante brings all their cars to them. My neighbour had a Tribute and someone back into his rear passenger door and they made it look perfect thats why i went to them. I had some people tell me that paintless dent repair is not good and in the cold the dents could happen again, maybe your insurance views that in the same light and they will only cover for a new pain job. Yes make sure you get that lifetime warranty on any kind of paint job BMC gave me a lifetime warranty for the paintless dent repair work, it took them almost 3 days to fix my car.

Trust me I do want to keep original paint job, but really can't if I want everything fixed up It WILL be the same or they will repaint repaint repaint, that I assure u and the one place already knows I am VERY particular. If it's not a perfect job they will fix it and I will be reinstating that to them before any shop takes on the job. If they don't want to deal with it, then I will go somewhere else. So far my insurance company says I can take it to where ever I want, they will just send an adjuster out to look it over. Mine will be more like 2 weeks Gonna take it in after the cruise and HOPE to hell get it back before Mosport!!

Yes you are right, you have the right to take the car to any bodyshop you want, its just if anything goes wrong and the shop you took it to is not on their list, then your left to deal with whatever warranty that body shop gives you. I went there cause they guaranteed lifetime warranty even though they were not on their approved list.

Well good luck with it, i hope all goes well!
